AWAYNESS is here.

What began as a story of espionage became a journey into the unknown. Now, with my third novel, the journey takes its most extraordinary turn yet—beyond science, beyond imagination, and perhaps beyond reality itself.

You can’t make this stuff up. I’m now a published author of three books. A trilogy.

My trilogy has both a very straightforward literal meaning and a much richer symbolic or spiritual significance.

Literally, a trilogy is a group of three related works that form a larger whole, most commonly three novels, films, plays, or musical works. A trilogy, therefore, is essentially three stories that together become one larger story.

Spiritually and symbolically, the idea becomes more interesting because three has long represented completeness, transformation, and unity. Instead of simply one, two, three, the pattern can be understood as:

Beginning. Transformation. Completion.

The first establishes existence or identity. The second introduces conflict, separation, struggle, or change. The third resolves or transcends what came before, creating something that could not have existed without the first two.

The process of writing is unique to every author.

Like artists—with their special paints, paper, and brushes—writers use whatever makes them comfortable. Stephen King swears by #2 pencils.

Neil Gaiman loves his Waterman fountain pen—even changes the color every day.

Simone de Beauvoir was infatuated with the Schaefer Snorkel pen.

Me… like my hero, King, I am gone over the #2 pencil and legal pad, but you must have a commercial sharpener that keeps the point perfectly lethal.

Remember: the pen is mightier than the sword!

Pat Conroy and James Patterson recommended “The Elements of Style” as their holy grail reference. It has become my bible.

Do these tools make us better…? Maybe.

Dawn is breaking; it’s a beautiful morn. The sky, a bright azure, the air crisp—allowing nature’s dew to rejuvenate the thirsty foliage and elicit the therapeutic jasmine aroma. How do I know that condensation increases as the dew point decreases? Well, after taking a John Carroll University physics class with Professor Sister Shelley, I became an expert on condensation, but that’s a whole other story.

Special Agents Steven and Avra, along with Cindy, the spiritual eyeless doll, are back! This time, they are at the heart of a secret sting operation meant to trick the infamous Iranian terrorist, Garf Zeman, into acquiring an augmented hard drive—intended to allow Israel to access and destroy Iran’s nuclear program.

Everything goes according to plan until it doesn’t.

Reach for the Stars, book two in the Altered State of Affairs series, is now available on Kindle Unlimited.
