@BleacherNation Those cheap, successful bullpen acquisitions Jed had early in his tenure has ended up being bad for the team long term, because now he thinks he can get away with building a bullpen that way every season. Hopefully this season is a wake up call.
@BleacherNation It’s his right, but it’s funny that he insisted on secrecy only to sign with the team that 95% of fans and reporters always thought he was going to sign with.
That would be like me announcing that no one can know what I’m doing today and I’m just sitting at home.
@BleacherNation The reaction on Twitter to these updates has been something else.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from social media, it’s that there are a lot of adults who have never learned how to handle disappointment.
@FullCountTommy Staying in LA is a very intentional power move by CAA. They want everyone at the winter meetings waiting and talking about them. Ohtani will probably sign shortly after the meetings simply b/c CAA doesn’t want this week to be about anyone else.
Just the nature of the business.
@FullCountTommy IMO… I doubt the best player of this generation is sitting around 3 weeks into free agency and seriously considering 5+ teams.
I’d guess he’s known which 1 or 2 teams he prefers for a while now. We just don’t definitively know the teams, which leads to articles like Passan’s.
@FullCountTommy I think it’s less about winning and more about years/money.
Giants are a very mediocre team in a tough division, but they got Correa because they gave him a huge contract.
If Jed offered 10 years/$225 million, Swanson would sign immediately.
@ballskwok@FullCountTommy That’s my read on it as well. He probably doesn’t want to be the only one of the 4 star SS with a contract under 10 years/$200 million.
I think he’ll ultimately sign for 7 or 8 years and right around $200 million.
@TheBlogfines 2 days ago Heyman tweeted about the Braves and Swanson. Yesterday he tweeted about the Red Sox and Swanson.
Today Rosenthal writes about the Dodgers and Swanson.
Either Dansby really doesn’t know where he’s going yet or they’re REALLY trying to get more money/years from Jed.
@Michael_Cerami It’s the “Belief is he’s want to go back” sentence that has me convinced this is a leverage play.
No agent would want the media to say where their client actually wants to go.
@TheBlogfines Jed operates under the mindset of “what moves won’t get me fired if they go wrong?”
You can talk your way out of getting fired if a contract backfires with 4 years left. You can’t talk your way out of getting fired if a contract backfires with 8 years left.
He lacks courage.
@FullCountTommy Might not be a coincidence that the Murphy rumors came out around the time we heard Vazquez might want up to 4 years.
This could be Jed trying to get some leverage.
When I first started out in my career, I thought I had to “fake it until you make it.” Later I learned to ask questions and embrace situations where I didn’t have all the answers. Here's how I went from being an insecure manager to a more honest leader:
NBA All-Star Zach LaVine has agreed to a five-year, $215.2 million maximum contract to return to the Chicago Bulls, with a player option in Year 5, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul told @TheAthletic@Stadium.
