🌈Earlier this week, the group announced a spate of events, set to take place from Aug. 10 to 20.
The flagship Street Festival will be happening on Saturday, Aug. 19.

B.C.’s representative for children and youth is calling on the provincial government to identify and implement policies to support gender-diverse children — especially those in care.

I agree with Nadine here. Government needs to hear from people on issues important to them, but public hearings aren't effective to discuss marginalized people. Perhaps a citizen's assembly mixed with other ways the general public can share their views? People need to be heard
We have a cat burglar in #NewWest. If you spot any of these missing shoes in the Sapperton area please call our neighbour… right meow. The funniest piece of mail I have received and I do hope she gets her shoes back. 👞 👟 👠
Today is #TransDayOfVisibility. For some this means being visible for the struggles they've endured. For others it's being seen for who they are. For all of us it's a time to try to learn more and become more accepting. Increased visibility means fewer deaths.
I just saw @AriaBCassadine's rendition of Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer, and I think it's the best version of that song I've ever heard. I can't find it on spotify though. Has it been recorded yet? I want to add this to my Christmas playlist!
@NicESpurling However, exposure to lewd behaviour is a parental choice. Some parents want to shelter their kids from it, others want to expose their children and start conversations, both are valid. But, I haven't heard of drag shows geared towards children being lewd.
@SilveryCurls Are they a not for profit organization? I like what they are doing, but a quick look at their website appears as though it might be a for profit entity.
The Rotary Club of New West is currently looking to find organizations in town to support. As a general rule, we tend to prefer funding capital expenses for organizations that have a sustainable impact in the community. I'd love to hear who you think is deserving.
Sometimes a friend points something out that makes you stop and gasp. @UWaterloo is more upset that he commented on their post than actually addressing their racialized pay discrepancy. Expecting more education for the indigenous candidate and paying less is gross. Do better!
Watching for news from us? Some of you spotted a mention in our newsletter of a chance to meet the new @newwestpride board tonight. We have limited seating capacity, so if you would like to snag a seat & find out more about getting involved, email [email protected]. 1/2
A quick look at vacation days offered by country makes Canada look pretty awful. Is this something we're addressing to ensure that our workforce is rested enough to be productive? #canpoli https://t.co/C4uxVyD35P
Going to be very hard to bring housing prices down to create the wages to housing cost differential from 20-30 yrs ago - younger folks with bigger mortgages would suffer.
Wages need to go up significantly for working people.
@Laurie66875288@kylegriffin1 Our leadership races (which seem more comparable to this) also require a 50% vote count to win, however for each successive ballot, the person with the fewest votes is dropped from the ballot. This system they are using makes no sense at all.
@verobeeee @SilveryCurls I have not yet heard from any student or teacher who uses the space talk about it positively, but I have heard some criticism.
Thanks for still doing these reports. It's really nice to have a major who blogs about why they vote the way they do. I really hope as our new councillors mature into their role that motions brought to council will stop being what I can only see as time wasting politicking.
