ah, I understand now. prayer is not a genie wish, it's a way of clarifying intentions such that they can unfold in your life, in that way it is a powerful psychotechnology and whether a god answers is not important
the greatest loss here is not math skills, but developing the tolerance for struggle. a huge degree of homework, school...is gaining comfort with "not knowing" and committing to the struggle of learning. humanity needs to preserve friction, if only to retain our tolerance for it.
The tech industry, properly understood, is less a collection of products and more a metastructure/argument/framework for how people should work with each other to accomplish important goals for society.
I think this is underappreciated and, so, saying it explicitly.
i used to think self-promotion was a really icky concept & practice, until i realized that the actual self-centered thing is to believe that people will just flock to your work (based on talent/"merit") without you having to say anything about it/support readers in finding it
No siblings will view their parents in the same way, because their parents become different people throughout the years.

the most disturbing trend is the amount of people treating life like an index fund.
never take big risks, never build a family, build a holding company other people run, don't make decisions, don't work hard on one thing, preserve optionality, never live just hedge until you die
a lot of my favorite relationships with people are what i'd call Long Orbit Friendships – often they're other busy creatives from completely different social graphs, and we only really talk like once a year, sometimes once in a few years, but when we do we talk for *hours*
