Building Aruru. Tweeting about AI, entrepreneurship, investing, science and whatever else grabs me. Espresso, road bikes and Leica photography normally
Meta beat forecasts on Thursday but fell 7 per cent after AI spending produced its first cash outflow in more than a decade. The Nasdaq fell 2.6 per cent and the chip index 6.7 per cent. Markets want proof that AI spending turns into cash. https://t.co/V6dc75gydP
WHO says 59 million children under five in Africa lack enough dietary variety. Many eat from no more than two of eight recommended food groups. The problem is more than calories. Food availability, affordability and practical support for carers all matter. https://t.co/7gj1eSu2QF
Forty eight road teams entered UCI registration for 2027. PwC will assess their finances, ethics and administration before the final list on 8 December. Winning races is only half the job. Teams must also prove the organisation can survive the season. https://t.co/sRXWWbE007
UK commercial clinical trials took 100 days on average to set up in the three months to March 2026, down from 153 a year earlier. All 24 met the 150 day target. Faster approval is progress. Recruitment is the next test. https://t.co/6akP0eehIF
Bank of England MPC member Megan Greene says forward looking wage measures point to growth nearer 3.5% than 3% over the coming year. For 2027 hiring budgets, that is a better base case than assuming today’s labour market slack will cut pay quickly. https://t.co/cC4W31T3nu
Export the last 30 days of paid search terms. Mark each query as service, research, competitor or irrelevant. Before adding a negative keyword, check whether that query produced a qualified enquiry. Compare enquiry cost next month, not click through rate.
ONS says the wholesale gas price rose 23 per cent in the seven days to 18 October, from 13.111 to 16.090 pence per kWh. That does not mean bills rise 23 per cent. Ofgem considers wholesale prices when setting the next quarterly cap, so timing matters.

Photograph the same shop window at 08.00, noon and 18.00 from the same position and focal length. Compare reflections, colour and who enters the frame. Changing the time rather than the place shows what light and footfall do to a scene.
On 19 October the EU selected 77 net zero projects across 23 countries for €3.4 billion. Six concern critical raw materials. Clean industry policy now spans materials, recycling, factories and energy systems rather than one flagship technology.

For the next hire, give every shortlisted candidate the same 30 minute task and the same source material. Score accuracy, explanation and what they chose not to do from one to five. Record the scores before reading the CV again.
NASA says the Roman telescope entered science commissioning on 22 October. It can already guide, take exposures and move between targets. The hard part now is proving tiny changes come from the universe rather than the instrument.

Send the same offer to 20 prospects in one narrow industry. Change only the first sentence for ten of them, using a recent public fact about each company. Compare replies, not opens. If relevance does not move replies, the offer is likely the problem.
A bond paying £50 a year costs £1,000, so its current yield is 5 per cent. If the price falls to £800, the same £50 is 6.25 per cent. The payment has not risen. The price paid for it has fallen.
Give an AI research agent one question and 20 sources, including five duplicates and three outdated pages. Ask it to cite every factual claim. Score source diversity, dates and whether each citation supports the exact sentence. A long bibliography can still hide weak evidence.
After the next club ride, ask riders which three locations caused the most sudden braking or movement. Mark each on the route and record direction of travel. Send the list to the organiser before the route is reused. Spoken warnings disappear. Route notes do not.
Open every missed call from the last seven days. Record the time, source, whether a voicemail was left and how long the callback took. For the next week, return genuine leads within ten minutes and compare booked appointments. More leads will not fix unanswered calls.
ONS reports the Direct Debit failure rate was 2.4 per cent in September, up from 2.3 per cent a year earlier. Subscription firms should separate failed payments from deliberate cancellations before deciding churn is a product problem.

List every feature requested by three or more customers in the past month. For each, write the workaround they use today and what happens if they do nothing. Build the feature linked to the most costly current behaviour, not the loudest wording.
A documentary maker needs £40,000 to finish a film. Before looking at follower count, ask for their last three budgets, completion dates and who worked with them twice. Delivery evidence and collaborator loyalty reveal different risks from audience size.
After five discovery calls, write every question buyers asked before price and every question asked after it. Group them by risk, implementation and proof. Build the next proposal around the two questions asked most, then see whether decisions move faster.
