Why do our pupils dilate when we’re surprised? 👀
A new study led by Brown University researchers finds that spikes in physical alertness act like a “refresh” button for the brain, helping people adjust expectations, process unexpected information and learn faster.

I thought I was done when the season ended. I wasn't ready to announce it, and I knew I needed some time to really decide, but I was pretty sure I played my last game. I was honest at that last press conference when I said I needed to look at myself and deicide if I still love
We're hiring a full-time Lab Manager for the Cognitive Flexibility Dynamics Lab at the University of Maryland, studying cognitive control via brain recording, stimulation, and computational modeling. Ideal for research experience before grad school: https://t.co/JrphEaNvpr
I'm happy to announce that @jonwillits and my Intro Programming for Brain & Cog Sci course has an alpha version of our textbook available for free online! Feel free to use it if you have anyone that needs to learn Python for psychology.

🚨 Big congrats to Dr. William H. Warren! 🚨
He’s received the 2025 Distinguished Research Award honoring his career of groundbreaking work on perception, action, and virtual reality at the VENLab. 🧠https://t.co/hC8JF5ERtt
I am SO excited to share my latest #preprint with collaborators @RobbRutledge, @zebkDotCom, @MartinJChadwick, @summerfieldlab, and others from DeepMind:

We are excited to share our new work on @NatureHumBehav. We used neural population geometry to analyze the population representation changes before and after learning. A new theory of manifold shrinkage is proposed and tested in both Deep Neural Networks, humans, and macaques.
Cheng et al introduce a neural geometry approach to reconcile past conflicting findings and propose a unified theory of visual perceptual learning using deep neural network modeling, human fMRI imaging, and multi-unit recordings in macaques.@ru_yuan_zhang

Fascinating #CogSci seminar by Prof. Bhandari from Brown University 📷 Explored how we map & navigate social networks. Key insight: We use similar mechanisms for social & spatial cognitive maps. 📷 #SocialNetworks#CognitiveMap#NetworkScience#AcademicTalks
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS!
Harvard's graduate student organization, Women in Psychology, is super excited to host the 2025 Trends in Psychology Summit (TiPS) conference! Abstract submissions for poster presentations, blitz talks, + sketchpads closes Friday, February 14th at 12:00PM EST.
Mitigating racial bias from LLMs is a lot easier than removing it from humans!
Can’t believe this happened at the best AI conference @NeurIPSConf
We have ethical reviews for authors, but missed it for invited speakers? 😡
If you're still at #sfn2024 tomorrow (Weds) am, check out @FINNLab_neuro members Clara Sava-Segal @csavasegal and Kay Liang @qiliang_kay in the nanosymposium Neural Bases of Human Social Cognition and Connection! Great speaker lineup!
I am recruiting PhD students for 2025! ⏰✨📝
My lab @BBSutdallas@UT_Dallas studies human cognitive neuroscience 🧠🧠🧠 in high-level perception and cognition using neuroimaging, naturalistic stimuli, computational methods, and AI models 🤖🤖🤖 in both typical and neuropsychological populations 💻💻💻!
