Jon McKenzie, CEO of Cenovus, came out swinging on their Q1 conference call today. Great to see CEO's becoming more vocal about our squandered opportunity! To summarize: no other oil producing country is doing this to themselves...time for Canada to wake up!
Carney did NOT create a sovereign wealth fund.
Carney announced a debt-fuelled corporate slush fund.
The government is more than $1 trillion in debt.
Carney will borrow $25 billion more. Dump it into a fund. Then gamble your money on risky corporate handouts.
ABSOLUTELY MUST WATCH CLIP... Deputy US Trade Representative Rick Switzer on USMCA
"They can have a weak economy that is underperforming and not doing well, and Carney can feel superior."
"Or they can have an economy that participates with as a partner of the U.S. economy."
"And Carney can do what a grownup should do, which is figure out."
"...It's my job as a person who's supposed to protect Canadian jobs and Canadian citizens and the Canadian economy to not let my ego and my feelings dictate what's best for my own economy."
Q "Do you think this will have implications for the USMCA?"
Switzer "Yeah, of course it is..."
"Look, was Ambassador Greer in Canada? Did he meet with Carney? No."
"...The grownups are in the room talking because there's a grown up in the presidency in leadership there, and I would argue there's not a grown up in Canada in charge there."
"You don't go out of your way to antagonize the leader of the country that you are absolutely existentially tied to."
"It's just political malpractice." @markjcarney
On April 1, 2026, (tomorrow) Canadians will face a 2% federal excise tax increase on beer, wine, and other alcohol. The industrial carbon tax is set to rise 16%, which will also raise consumer prices and federal payroll taxes for CPP and EI will increase.
Fortunately we can rest easy knowing that on the same day Mark Carney is getting a $17,600 dollar increase & all Federal MP’s are receiving an $8800 increase & Ministers are receiving a $13000 thousand dollar increase.
We are and always will be the fools on April fools day under the Liberal Government.
@RogersHelps what a frustrating experience. I finally get my phone transferred from Koodo to Rogers and now on hold for 2 hours to get a QR code cuz the phone is in SOS mode with no way to receive texts for the eSim.
@mrsunshinebaby The budget isn't great and we should do some reductions. We were left 95 Billion in debt in 2019 when the NDP left office before COVID. (5 credit downgrades) NDP increased the size of the government by 35%. Healthcare and education shouldn't be cut.
🚨 $544 BILLION.
That’s how much Canada has spent importing foreign oil since 1988 — from Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Venezuela, Russia, Angola, Malaysia, Norway…
All while sitting on one of the largest, safest, most ethical oil reserves on Earth.
And why?
Because Ottawa refuses to build a single East-West pipeline that would keep Canadian energy in Canada, keep Canadian dollars in Canada, and keep Canadian workers employed in Canada. 🇨🇦
For 36 years weve been enriching dictatorships while bankrupting our own economy ..all in the name of “virtue.”
No serious country does this.
Only Canada does.🇨🇦
It’s time to stop importing the world’s oil and start exporting Canada’s future.
