@NDRepublicans I dunno. Paul says rather explicitly and repeatedly that when I am weak, I am strong. Christianity is not a self-improvement program, even as we are called to be use our gifts to love God and neighbor. Caring for those weaker and helpless is not an add-on; it’s at the core.
@BishopBarron Among the ill-informed and frankly anti-Catholic posts here, many allege Pope Leo has not spoken out against the persecution of Christians in Nigeria. In fact, Pope Leo has done so many times. As for Popes & war, JP II strongly opposed the 2003 Iraq war. Leo’s stance fits this
@JonahDispatch I say this with complete confidence and no knowledge or understanding of the relevant issues.”
That could describe 99 percent of X posts!
@mfjlewis@Frankenhouse5 Well, AL had problematic aspects from the point of view of Church tradition and teaching. It crossed a line that should not have been crossed.
@Frankenhouse5@mfjlewis I agree there was a lack of respect in some criticism of Francis. But he was not known to be respectful, at times, of his critics and was capable of being snarky himself. Unfortunate all around.
@mfjlewis@Frankenhouse5 He didn’t “challenge conservatives” in the AL footnote and in FS. He challenged irreformable Catholic teaching. That’s not a liberal vs conservative thing. Dogmatic Catholic teaching on faith and morals is not “conservative.” That’s a New York Times invention.
@gonefishin1948 No. Abiding by Constitution, rule of law, and not treating Presidency as a personal fiefdom are. The man’s a clown & mountebank (love how “Catholics” bow to a serial adulterer & fraudster). Great that border is under control & minors saved from “gender care.” But price too high.
@Frankenhouse5@mfjlewis But to question the ambiguities in Amoris Laetitiae and FS on the basis of irreformable teachings in prior documents of the Magisterium is not the equivalent of dissenting on contraception, abortion, the proper formation of conscience, etc. Lewis equates these 3 profs w/Vigano!🙄
