I'm seeing my feed flooded with posts about Europeans realizing that they were lied to about America.
The consensus of their posts is that America is safer, more prosperous, and more welcoming than they were told.
This might be the most powerful effect of the World Cup.
For all my friends around the world convinced we’d see empty stadiums and no atmosphere, it’s packed to the gills in SF for the banger of a game between Qatar and Switzerland.
Not to say there isn’t plenty wrong with our nation, and/or FIFA, but welcome to the spectacle. This is a soccer country. And for all our flaws, this World Cup is going to rip for the next month.
Life is short. Choose happiness. Be happy for ppl. I understand misery loves company but don’t invite me to that sht. #Knicks in however many. I’ll see you at the parade ✌🏿
@ClayTravis Oh they have all been out this week, NJDOTCOM is disgusted our great state is hosting the World Cup. They live in their own self loathing misery, it’s embarrassing
🇺🇸 Mauricio Pochettino tells FOX that Christian Pulisic got a kick in the calf and started to feel tight:
“We didn't want to take any risks.”
Pulisic adds he was "subbed off as a precaution."
The World Cup absolutely mogs every other sporting event. It’s what the Olympics wishes it was X100.
You’ve got Europeans road-tripping across America and having their minds blown by Buc-ee’s and Bass Pro Shops. You’ve got a small Kansas town falling in love with an Algerian club that chose Kansas City as their homebase. You’ve got South Korea training in Utah to prepare for the altitude in Guadalajara.
For one month, the whole world forgets we’re supposed to hate each other over differences that barely matter. It’s the closest thing we have to world peace.
I came to America expecting a great World Cup.
What I didn’t expect was how welcoming everyone would be.
Every local I’ve met has been desperate to recommend places to visit, food to try and things to see.
Americans, thank you.
It’s the World Cup. Why should it be catered to one continent? I’ve spent most of my life watching football precisely at these hours.
Deal with it. Or don’t. But there’s nothing to complain about.
Self loathing Americans, many in the media, are the worst. Just Enjoy the World Cup, enjoy being one of the host countries, enjoy the games and touch grass!
Happy 250th from this sports columnist! (For reference, the last two World Cups were held in Russia & Qatar): “We have shown ourselves to be a hateful and greedy nation…we chose to be ugly Americans.”
