@drich82 I’m 44. Maternal grandfather died young so Dad took that over around 22 with my uncle. Then worked alongside paternal grandfather until I was about 20. I took over the farm management at 22 when Dad went to work for the state department of ag. Transitioned ownership at 40ish
@RadioRodThorson@scottwestacre Also, why does it matter on a per bushel basis if you grow more bushels due to the technology? More bushels at the same price equals more money in your pocket.
@RadioRodThorson@scottwestacre I don’t disagree that Syngenta abandoned the product, but the tech and the varieties were made public so that anyone could commercialize it and some non profits tried. If you’ve ever tried to sell gm products in Asia for human consumption you would see why.
@RadioRodThorson@scottwestacre I choose every single unit of every single crop that gets planted on my farm. I also happen to be a salesman for one of the evil ag companies you speak of and I don’t “sell” anything. I work with customers to find the seed that they want.
@RadioRodThorson@scottwestacre How about high oleic soybeans? I receive an extra $.75 per bushel on the ones I grow. Seed company also doesn’t make more money because they are less expensive than E3 soybeans.

@Badgerswimr Not much wheat going in on the East coast for just this reason. Somewhere around $5.50 if you’re lucky enough to only be paying $200 rent.
@FoulkShay I do similar but generally on a weekly basis. No rice for me and each lunch includes a sandwich bag full of raw veggies. I don’t hate the idea of being able to heat up lunch on the combine though.
