The PHP team is in Tulı́t'a this week. One thing we've heard alot is that it's so important that people both in the region and beyond know about this history. Imperial's operations have impacted the land and people of the Sahtú in so many ways. We need to listen to their stories.
.@NiCHE_Canada and @ActiveHist kindly agreed to cross-post this blog about the history of oil at Tłegǫ́hłı̨ from the perspective of Sahtú Dene and Métis. It's now live on the NiCHE Otter Blog. If you haven't had a chance to read it, please do!
Today on our site the Petroleum Histories Project Team highlight their work in "A Century of Petroleum Extraction at Tłegǫ́hłı̨ (Norman Wells)": https://t.co/MKgvmTHt83

"The history of Norman Wells looks quite different when it is told from...the perspective of Sahtú Dene and Métis...In this post, we centre the voices and perspectives of our people. Industry and government narratives have been left for the footnotes." https://t.co/zeUMWzLY7w
"Sahtú Dene and Métis have been little more than a footnote in conventional histories of Norman Wells, if we are mentioned at all. Our people and our stories are absent from corporate and state archives; we have been overlooked and erased."

The Petroleum Histories Project was initiated by Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę Gots’ę́ Nákedı (Sahtú Renewable Resources Board – SRRB) and the Norman Wells, Tulı́t’a, and Fort Good Hope Ɂehdzo Got’ı̨nę (Renewable Resources Councils).
For the last two years, I've been working w community members in the Sahtú to gather stories abt the history of Imperial Oil's operations at Tłegǫ́hłı̨ (Norman Wells and impacts on land, water, animals, people, and Dene and Métis ts’ı̨lı̨ (way of life). https://t.co/iPV4kQSFJ8
Máhsı to @ActiveHist and @NiCHE_Canada for this opportunity to share Sahtú Dene and Métis experiences and perspectives on petroleum extraction at Tłegǫ́hłı̨.

#EnvHist folks, I'm looking for scholarship on the history of environmental assessment in Canada. Most of what I've found so far is from legal scholars and resource management researchers. Would love work by historians. Thanks for your help!
If you're an Indigenous student at the U of A please apply for next year! If you are not, consider purchasing a set of our 150 Acts of Reconciliation posters so we can continue to offer this award. https://t.co/7ZVdKBlw6Q
Through our #150Acts project @crystalfraser and I established the Gwiizii ts'àt gwitàatsàh award to support Indigenous students at @UAlberta. We've updated our website to celebrate the first two recipients: https://t.co/QtqbBsqaDr
@JessicaMDeWitt Thanks for sharing this, Jessica! It is one of my favourite pieces of historical writing that I’ve done. Always nice to be reminded of its existence.
