@douglaschu_@norabird I feel like a lot of the trips as a kid I had no context for, it's an entirely different experience being intentional about planning and prepping to visit a country
@douglaschu_@norabird We did Mexico this winter and I was reading and listening to things about the Mexican revolution and my friend was reading about the aztecs and other early cultures and we kinda swapped facts when we were there. It made things far more fun
@douglaschu_@norabird I haven't kept up with too many people from high school but it doesn't seem like too many ended up on the Dubai elitist track that wouldn't have regardless of expat life
@douglaschu_@norabird But it's not like the heir to the mars corporation or the tiger balm fortune was going to end up much different from living there.
@douglaschu_@norabird We were a cabin in MN. First time on a plane was a trip to Hawaii which we only did because my dad racked up enough miles on business trips to fly us all for free. I think there were definitely kids like us where s'pore was a huge expansion of our horizons for the better.
@douglaschu_@norabird That might just be correlation. Most of our classmates came from rich families already. Travel was probably incidental to being crazy rich in the first place
