Few producers in Rheinhessen work across such a broad range of varieties and styles with the consistency of Weingut Thörle. From dry to sweet riesling, alongside chardonnay and pinot noir, the wines are handled with precision across the lineup.

Based in Saulheim, brothers Johannes and Christoph Thörle farm organically across limestone-rich vineyards, including top sites Hölle, Probstey and Schlossberg. Staff Writer & Critic Ryan Montgomery tasted through the latest releases with the brothers before heading into the vineyards to inspect the limestone soils that shape the wines.

In complete alignment with is report..'25 Rheinhessen, and '25 Germany overall is showing early signs of legendary greatness. '25 Witmann Morstein GG and the '25 Kühling-Gillot Wurzelecht Rothenberg GG are indeed 'perfect wines.' Thanks for the excellent reporting.

G700 is one of Rheinhessen’s new and innovative wine projects, centered on 700-liter eggs carved from granite sourced in Spain. Founded in Ingelheim by Felix Harth and sommelier Thilo Fetzer, the project explores how different varieties and sites respond to élevage in granite.

Staff Writer & Taster Ryan Montgomery met with Fetzer in Ingelheim to taste across the G700 project, including wines from producers such as Braunewell and Jakob Schneider. Working with winemakers across the region, the granite eggs offer a distinct approach to élevage – retaining purity and vineyard expression while bringing texture and structure to the wines.
