@paulnovosad What kind of theory are you looking for? I think this is fundamentally a moral and political judgement. There might be something in the poli sci world, I really don't think there is anything in econ.

@meemee12moo @paulnovosad Accidents and driving infractions are rare, so sex is still informative about risk once you condition on driving history. This is especially true for young drivers.

@t0nyyates I had it write some python code to solve the numbers round on Countdown. It wrote a brute-force (try everything) solution, so I asked it to write something more efficient. It claims it wrote a solution that uses dynamic programming. Haven't had the chance to test.

@_marimartins04 When I was in econ 101 I did well by just accepting it on its own terms. I don't know if it's possible to convince them to stop arguing with it. I remember experiencing the cognitive shift when learning game theory.
