@HannahCostigan The Last of Us is incredible. I’m on ep6, and the story and acting and has just blown my mind so far. I’m glad I follow enough people who played the game to have been spoiled for some of the big shocks, though – makes it less stressful to watch!
This week at @CatapultStory, we’re celebrating #NationalTranslationMonth by publishing essays, how-to’s, and interviews about the act of translation. We’re calling it #WhatsTheWord, an exploration of what’s lost, gained, and changed when we translate language—and ourselves.
@jeanneologist That’s so interesting! And it had never occurred to me that the 13th/14th c English would need to learn French properly—I always imagined it developing slowly as a sort of pidgin, but of course they did. Thank you for explaining! (Also, ALL universities should teach necromancy🤣)
@jeanneologist Honestly, I hadn’t even considered that they would exist! Who were they aimed at? Travelling merchants and such? Did people go on holiday?
@HannahCostigan@BBCWomansHour This! Fandom has brought me lifelong friends who have outlasted anyone I met in real life, writing and communication skills that I use in my work and a broader, more generous and more informed perspective on so many issues. I wouldn't be the person I am without it.
@squidgebob21 Oh no, you're still there? I'm sorry! I suggest getting under a stretcher trolley covered with a sheet and having someone roll you out while whistling.
I want to look at this commentary on my essay that won that award yesterday.
Shakespeare's Coriolanus is not a new play (nor are any of his plays but just go with me okay, pendant?). The historical Coriolanus was born before the establishment of Republican Rome.
