Today, on what would have been his 66th birthday, we reflect on the life, legacy, and impact of Rickey Henderson—what he meant to Oakland, Oakland sports, and our entire community.

The number 24 has always held special significance, reserved by the Club for players born and raised in Oakland, in honor of both Rickey Henderson and our co-owner, Marshawn Lynch.

Today, Oakland Roots and @oaklandsoulsc are proud to announce that we are officially retiring the number 24—forever and always. This number will no longer be worn by either team, as a tribute to an Oakland icon.
