Just been lying next to my son who couldn't sleep. Was thinking about how the NHS has been there for him & his twin brother all through their lives. Their first 2 weeks in NICU, in the hospital I work in. The NHS & stories of vulnerability & care are woven through all our lives.
The NHS is in horrific meltdown, people are dying in abject misery in corridors, but don’t worry, the man in charge just tweeted this - his only tweet of the day - about jogging.
For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help.
I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).
Harrowing words from a senior emergency medicine doctor showing the despair at not being able to provide the level of care every doctor hopes to for their patients. Every doctor, nurse & HCW can empathise with this right now.
Shared w/ permission. Pls RT to get this out there.
How many of you know what Cruella Braverman's Public Order Bill contains?
It's frankly unbelievable: legislation you might expect in Russia, Iran or Egypt. Here's a summary from my column today:
PRIVATE MEDICINE IS NOT THE SOLUTION! It is extravagant, inequitable and easily leads to over treatment. Socialised healthcare systems like the NHS work fine in Scandinavia. The problem with the NHS is the Tory Party, not the principle of tax-funded equal medical treatment for all

Since its #WorldMentalHealthDay2022, this is your timely reminder that it is not enough to encourage the public to *seek* help...
... when we also need properly staffed and resourced mental health services that can actually *give* help to everyone who needs it🤝
🚨@trussliz is preparing to approve the biggest undeveloped field in the North Sea: Rosebank.
Rosebank WON’T lower bills or make our energy more secure. But it WILL produce pollution equal to the world’s 28 lowest-income countries.
We will #StopRosebank https://t.co/dYPL3nDAUZ
I locked myself out of Twitter but am BACK in time to draw your attention to this vital study which will help us learn more about how we make sense of personal relationships.
@KateBurkeNHS Weirdly bananas sometimes help me - something to do with potassium though there is probably zero science to this. And tracking triggers as mine totally changed and can no longer eat things I’ve eaten my whole life.
The feeling of doing what we can, while being exhausted, on edge, no end in sight, knowing we're unable to give the care we want. It hurts, silently & deeply. Important we keep talking about moral distress when we can, supporting each other to make sense of how hard it all feels.
