In college I was literally close to death due to stress and mental health problems, both related to my Autism.
But if a non-autistic looked at college me, and also a non-speaking Autistic who is thriving and healthy, they’d label me “high-functioning” and him “low-functioning.”
This is a recent tweet from an "Autism Mom". I agree with her - I DON'T speak "for" non-speaking Autistic people. But neither does she.
Why? Because through #AAC, they can speak for themselves.
Here's a thread of quotes EXCLUSIVELY from non-speaking Autistic people. Heed them.
@IHateRyanDavid I wished all my players would give me backstories like that first one - so, so much more fun to incorporate into building the campaign.
The campaign should be about your players, NOT you.
Every time people want to say animation is "just for kids," I implore them to rewatch Shrek and properly listen to the dialogue.
Like, actually listen.
Also, anyone with childhood scars would remember Happy Tree Friends. :)
One of the most difficult and restricting things as an autistic person is constantly being told to keep your anxiety to yourself.
The number of times I've felt "annoying" for asking questions so I feel comfortable/prepared enough for something is in the thousands.
There is no "gay agenda." People are the way they are.
But man, is there absolutely a fucking cisheteronormative agenda. This insistence on eliminating the existence of queer folk is frightening.
Idaho's house just passed HB 675.
It passed by a vote of 55-13.
It would make providing gender affirming care to trans teens a felony with a life sentence..
Worse... it makes leaving the state with your trans teen to move elsewhere and provide them with care a felony as well.
