when I adopted you right as the pandemic started, you gave me laughter and comfort in an uncertain time. you were the adoption center’s office cat who loved eating cake

when I walked into a room it was never by myself since you’d waddle behind me always

when I fought depression in 2021 you somehow knew the rare times I would be crying, and would jump on my half-made bed and push your face into mine as if you wanted me to use your ears as tissues

the only thing you loved more than treats was being around people. everyone said you were a dog in cat’s clothing. when you made a cameo on my stream it was the highlight of the entire day

you loved to sleep and eat and constantly had an engine running. I could open a can of tuna in a different area code and you’d probably run over.

and even when they told me before adoption that you were sick and wouldn’t live as long as most cats, I still chose you to come live with me.

you were never picky with who you liked. you spent time with me, my friends, my mom and grandma, people in my life from the past and present, and brought everyone a little bit of extra joy by deciding to buy a plot of real estate on their laps.

you were the best cat, and dare I say the best companion someone could have over these last five years

and maybe if I’m as kind to as many people as you were in your life, I’ll meet you one day again
