@Ek24415@Victoria_Spratt@insidehousing We report on this issue all the time, I’ve been to plenty of construction sites and speak to developers all the time. Their with the BSR tend to be about procedure, speed, how it works in practice not wanting to build under laxer standards
@Ek24415@Victoria_Spratt@insidehousing Billions are already being spent to fix these problems - obviously once a block of flats is identified as beng unsafe, the homes are completely unsaleable and uninsurable. The point of the regulations is also largely to attempt to ensure new buildings are built safely
@Ek24415@Victoria_Spratt@insidehousing As I do make clear in my story, there is a debate about how well the building safety regulator is working. On the other hand there is a need to treat the problem with the appropriate seriousness because lives and people’s homes are on the line
@Ek24415@Victoria_Spratt@insidehousing The reality is that in the years before Grenfell, there were serious flaws and gaps in building regulations in this country. The evidence is up and down the country in the thousands of buildings that are being very expensively fixed because they have life threatening defects.
I do think this is missing the point dramatically.
Lots of people from across the political spectrum are worried about the performance of the Building Safety Regulator and how rules can be safely tweaked to speed up house building.
However building safety must come first >>
This is why @Keir_Starmer is asking for the Reform housing guy to be sacked??
It's just a statement of the obvious that stringent new safety rules have costs, and maybe those costs have to be weighed against the purported benefits? That this is controversial is insane.
Thinking of survivors and those bereaved in Grenfell, and also there have been serious safety issues found in thousands of other buildings too after Grenfell. In many cases they are still living with fear about what would happen in case of a fire, as work hasn’t been completed
Reform's new housing spokesperson, says building safety regulation has gone too far. Asked if the Grenfell fire shows the risk of deregulation he says: "Sadly, you know, everyone dies in the end."

Somewhat strange to hear @bbcnickrobinson haranguing an NHS Consultant for being on “over £100,000” and claiming to channel the feelings of ordinary people.
His salary in 2024 was between £345,000 - £349,000. For presenting radio programs. Which never saved anyone’s life?

Well I’m back here for the breaking news on the war unfortunately. In the time since I last posted I had a stranger phone me via Facebook messenger to try and get me to sell my account to them for $1500.
