“You know, it’s music at the end of the day and music should not be divided in any shape or form.” - ROSÉ, Vogue Australia 2021
Yeah she’s been saying that since 2021🥺
yk what pissing me off even more is the fact that they only mentioned east asian music as a part of the nominees as if asia is limited to only korea japan and china 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 just a bunch of useless racists making excuses
ROSÉ’s “rosie” becomes the first album by a female K-pop soloist in history to reach 4 billion streams on Spotify. Its also the fastest by a female K-pop act.
the grammys introduced the "best asian pop music" and "best latin song" categories right after rosé and bad bunny got nominated on both 'song of the year' and 'record of the year' categories pls they couldn't be more obvious 😭
ROSÉ’s “rosie” has now surpassed 4 BILLION streams on Spotify, becoming the FASTEST album by a female K-pop Act ever to achieve this milestone.
— It also stands as the FIRST album by a female K-pop soloist to reach this mark.
Rosé talks about her music being labeled as K-Pop in a recent interview:
“Evidently there is a part of me that is proud of being in this category called ‘K-Pop’, but I also sincerely hope that this label ‘K-pop’ will not become a factor of division for music. ‘K-Pop’ is a very powerful word and it is good in that sense, but I hope it will not turn into a discriminating factor (for music).”
is it “more inclusive” if you’re basically barring asian acts from winning any main awards and delegating them to a category that probably won’t even be shown at the main event? and this might be nit-picky but there are 48 countries in asia why are we only highlighting 3?
They should call it the East Asian category if those are the only three countries they'll recognise, cause where's Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, and Vietnam? All of those countries have strong cultural pop music scenes.
The GRAMMYs are introducing their first Asian category at next year’s ceremony.
Best Asian Pop Music Performance will recognise K-Pop, J-Pop, C-Pop recordings that feature meaningful use of one or more Asian languages.
literally what rosé was talking about. they keep creating these separate categories that end up boxing asian artists into specific lanes instead of allowing them to compete on equal footing. this just creates more room for discrimination while pretending it's inclusion
