Ph.D. student in @KhouryCollege, alumni of @BUCompSci . I study distributed systems and networks. Also, I build stuff 🦀. Tweets and opinions are my own.
Amazing talk from @andy_pavlo about implementing many database components in kernel-space with eBPF and getting some great performance! #P99CONF
Makes me want to go deeper on these topics.
@ShriramKMurthi It is a race condition, so stochastic. On each reboot there is some probability that the network stack stays up long enough for the machine to receive and deploy the update that fixes it before it crashes. That probability is such that up to 15 tries may be required
I know lots of people are suffering from cancelled flights and other problems, but I'm the one that has to hear about this in job-talk introductions for the next decade.
1. A score of 1.5% (0.5/30!) on an electrical eng midterm at IITM (5th sem). Somehow pulled off a decent grade thanks to the final.
2. Much much worse, failed my PhD oral prelim exam at Berkeley. Retook it, passed, but stressful!
It’s not how you fail, but how you fight thru it.
Excited to share that tomorrow I’m presenting my paper on flexible auditing for network functions at the CoNEXT student workshop. With @proffnes we explore how we can audit feature-rich network functions that are deployed in an untrusted environment, and do so with low cost.(1/3)
Our key insight is that we don’t have to audit *every* packet, but instead can rely on sampling to detect violations of key properties with high probability. We are also building auditing primitives so that we can cover a wide range of properties. (2/3)
@DistributedDave Are you sure you don't want steam gift cards? I will send you pictures of those cards with codes very soon. I am sure you will reimburse them for me.
@matthew_d_green TBH this is kind of everywhere (system, ML), a new technology is here so every paper you see is about the new technology because of course no one is working on them rn. IMO industrial research pushed the academia to this, as an academic this is more trival to publish stuff.
@dave_andersen Sometimes the restaurant can't get the same good fresh vegetables which can impact the taste. Or maybe a new chef is working there now. You can try again in maybe a week to see whether the performance is degrading lol.
@dave_andersen I typically use mapo tofu as a bar to examine a Sichuan restaurant. If they can get it right, the chef should know what he/she is doing. You probably can ask for vegie recommendations directly, too. They usually know what are the popular good dishes.
A little late to report this, but I have finished my internship @thousandeyes for the summer. I had a great time within the Research Team and I would miss it :) I am sure there is no secrets on Internet, so ... I worked on some Internet stuff during my internship.
@dave_andersen@justinesherry @darryl_ramm It makes me quite sad that no one mentioned the sequent calculus tee shirt. Also, I would chip in for a rage against blockchain tee if that exists
