@4paulmcardle@WattClarity A solid amount of the replacement could be from using existing and lightly used gas generators. Does Vic have the gas network and overall supply though? I’m no gas expert.
Pretty long list of important issues raised by AEMO with CER / DPV in the report mentioned and screen shot attached. It would be worth having a read. AEMO are struggling to understand and get on top of these challenges. Distributed energy has a massive role to play but we need to be considerate and coordinated to make it work technically and economically.
Good question. From a social / economic POV it seems like a lot of people taking up the battery subsidies are middle / upper class. This leaves the expanding fixed network costs to be borne by a shrinking pool of industry and people who cannot afford batteries and / or rent or live in apartments.
From a network performance view it’s unclear exactly how these batteries will perform but it certainly increases the complexity of the grid operation. AEMOs draft General Power System Risk Review Report 2026 (see image) details the increased complexity and risks it is flagging.
@GlennLoury Thank you, sir, an inspiring and heart warming speech. Your message of accountability is one which should resonate globally. Pls keep up your message it is greeting through.
@nyunggai@BulletinAtomic One of the strongest argument for nuclear is that it is synchronous generation and provides inertia and system strength (ie fault current); critical components of our grid. Something inverter based generation (wind, solar & battery) struggles to do well.
@nyunggai Let’s have an open National Electricity Market and have all options available to us. Ruling out nuclear for purely ideological reasons doesn’t make sense. We need every lever available for consideration in the mix for the transition of the generation fleet.
@elonmusk Hi @elonmusk, when are you back in South Australia? We are the still the bleeding edge of the transition to a high renewable / inverter based modern grid and have progressed even further since when you were last here.
@elonmusk@JoeBiden Come back to South Australia (previously home of Australia’s automotive industry and the original big @Tesla Battery) as we’ll appreciate your investment. Industrial heartland with green electrons.
