Dear Andy Burnham,

I am perhaps the British citizen who has suffered most directly from Britain’s misguided policies towards Israel and the Palestinians over the past 25 years.

My Oxford-educated wife, Lucy, and my British-educated daughters, Maia and Rina, were brutally murdered by Palestinian terrorists in the Jordan Valley in April 2023. Since their murders, the terrorists’ families have been eligible for payments from the Palestinian Authority under its notorious “pay-for-slay” system. The terrorist organisations responsible for so much bloodshed have also flourished in an environment sustained for decades by international funding, including British support for the PA and UNRWA.

And now you propose boycotting products made by Jews living in the West Bank.

You insist that you are not against Israelis. Yet you are prepared to single out Jewish Israelis like me for economic punishment.

That is the hypocrisy I find so difficult to accept.

For decades, Palestinian terrorism has killed thousands of innocent Israelis, like my wife and daughters, while the Palestinian Authority has operated a system financially rewarding prisoners and the families of those killed carrying out attacks partially funded by the UK. Yet your moral outrage is directed not at those institutions, but at Jewish businesses in Judea and Samaria.

Of course Palestinians have also been killed by Israelis, including tragically innocent people. But many deaths have occurred during terrorist attacks, armed clashes and Israeli security operations. Equating those circumstances with a government system that financially rewards convicted terrorists and their families obscures a crucial moral distinction.

To paraphrase the late Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks: criticising or boycotting Israel is not necessarily antisemitic. Singling out Israel for standards applied to no other country can be.

If you genuinely believe your policy is principled rather than discriminatory, I invite you to defend it publicly.

I would be happy to debate you on television, anywhere and at any time.

In the last few months, my life has changed beyond all compare. I made a decision to support my Jewish friends and without hesitation. I feel anxious almost everywhere I go but I do not regret my decision. I have seen friends that I have helped and supported turn on me without a conversation. It hurts because I know that not only do they know Jewish people but they have benefited hugely from the association with Jews. British Jews have always made London better from Philip Sallon's crazy nightclubs to the brick lane Bagel shop.
More importantly and most shocking is that many of these anti Isreal people have zero political instincts. They only care because it has become fashionable to care. I would go as far to say that they are the biggest and most hideous cowardly fakes to walk this earth. Why are people who support their Jewish friends being called to account while these fakes, like Ed Sheeran, Jade and countless others get to pretend to care about a situation they could not comprehend even if they really tried. I support anyone calling for peace. That is what we should all be doing. How can Isreal be an apartheid state when Arabs and Christians live there peacefully and are part of the political system? As for Ed Miliband, clearly we know why he never because Prime Minister and Andy Burnham won't be getting my vote. In life there are people who see what's going on and others who just blindly follow the trends. Remember. Fashions change.

Everyone throws this word genocide around about Israels actions in Gaza. But the simple fact that Hamas has a doctrine specifically stating the destruction of Israel and Jews as their priority is not even considered. Now do I agree with everything Israel has done, no, but I sure don't agree with anyone who's mission is to destroy a nation and religious belief via Jihad or any other means. Something’s shifting about Israel and Jew hate. A slight breeze. Almost imperceptible. I felt the exact same sensation in the trans debate. There was a tilt in perception, especially when the general public found out that a male rapist was in a female prison. Before that it seemed as though nearly everyone in the world, which really means everyone in media, politicians, and those running institutions, accepted men could be women. And then reality reasserted itself against the madness, as most people clearly saw what was going on and went ‘Nah that’s bollocks, that’s not right.’ And some media and politicians got braver, and some saw which way the wind was blowing, and the mirage started to fade.

In the UK, the incessant attacks and plots against Jews has also woken the British public up. We are not bigoted. We don’t like this. We don’t like what this means for our country. And whether from bravery or self-interest, the media and politicians are slowly changing their tune. For the most part they either pushed lies about Israel, or went along with them. It’s insane what happened. Our media, politicians, and many institutions, have spent years acting as direct outlets for Islamic extremist propaganda. Just insane fucking lies. None more so than Israel is enacting a genocide. And now British Jews are being killed because of that lie. And as more time goes on, and it’s apparent the population of Gaza has in fact massively grown, the lie gets harder to push, harder to defend. Especially as the ramifications of that lie are seen in the continual violence directed at British Jews. That’s why Kemi Badenoch’s clip went so viral. She spoke for the silent majority of British people who are sick of this. They have seen the hate marches, they can see that those who were meant to inform have done the opposite, can see Jews are being attacked as a result. And they have gone “Nah that’s bollocks, that’s not right.”

This isn’t over. By a long shot. Years after Isla Bryson, the battle over women’s rights and children’s safety is still ongoing. For Jews it’s probably going to get worse, as those who’ve pushed the genocide lie, either because they hate Jews, or because it was fashionable, will double down. This includes many politicians and media. They are complicit. We are seeing some pivot and hoping no one notices, but the damage has been done and it’s going to be difficult to return to where we were, what we were. Although hopefully, those dealing in facts and evidence, no longer have the wind blowing so hard against us.

This Sunday there is a march against Jew hate. But really it’s a march against all the wankers who got us to this place. The more of the British public who come, the more who shout their defiance alongside Jews, who call out the bullshit of those who’ve shamed their roles to lead and report, then the more chance of turning a breeze into a gale. It’s time to get this country back to what we once were. A haven for Jews, a haven for fairness, tolerance, and common sense.

It breaks my heart to write this, but I fear that the Britain we loved is no more, a mere fading memory that our children will have to read about in history books. The almost unspeakable truth is that the savage Yom Kippur attack on worshippers at a Manchester synagogue came as a terrible shock, but it wasn’t a surprise. 
All of us with ears to listen and eyes to see knew that something like this was coming – yet when it did, it still felt like a hammer had been taken to our hearts. 
This has been a truly shameful week for our country, our institutions and our grossly inadequate political establishment. Britain, once the most tolerant, best integrated nation in Western Europe, a beacon of democracy, opportunity and freedom, a nation that by the 1990s was embracing colour-blind and meritocratic ideals, has turned into a cesspit of anti-Semitism, a case study in what a country should not do. 
Britain’s descent into Jew hatred is not a mere outbreak, a passing virus: it’s a deep-seated cancer that has already started to metastasise into the despicable terrorist violence seen at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. 
I blame our politicians – Tory and Labour, with a few exceptions – for allowing this disease to spread in recent years. Why didn’t the Tories listen to Suella Braverman? Nigel Farage gets it. Kemi Badenoch gets it, and it isn’t her fault that her predecessors failed so disastrously.
But Labour are most to blame. They claim to believe in diversity and tolerance, but have behaved in an unacceptably cavalier fashion. It is not good enough for Labour politicians to express their regret at the atrocities in Manchester, or proffer their condemnations, or appeal to tolerance, or beg the organisers of the latest marches not to go ahead with their vindictive demonstrations. 
It is not good enough to condemn a generic “hatred” when this is very much a specific detestation of Jewish people, an age-old loathing dressed up in new Israelophobic garb. It is a scandal that the Labour Government decided to reward Hamas for its attack on Israel by recognising a Palestinian state; it is despicable how so many on the Left pretend to believe that Israel is committing a “genocide”, while in fact it is waging a just war which has killed far fewer civilians than any previous urban conflicts. 
There is a clear connection between dehumanising and delegitimising Israel, holding it to unachievable standards, and the rise of anti-Semitism in Britain. To claim otherwise is not to be honest. It is obviously possible to criticise any country, its politicians and its policies: I criticise Britain all the time, and yet I’m not Britophobic. Israelis criticise their own government all the time too, and they are not Israelophobic. 
But what we are seeing today is a deranged obsession with Israel in some quarters, at the expense of every other conflict or every other problem in the world. Israel is never given the benefit of the doubt, unlike any other country; it is never forgiven for any mistakes, unlike any other country; and its problems are assumed to be self-inflicted, to have been caused by its own actions. This is a classic case of modern anti-Semitism.
Britain’s model of tolerance, developed since the 1850s when Jews were finally allowed to serve in Parliament and non-Anglicans to attend Oxford University, is facing an existential threat. The fact that there were so many “pro-Gaza” demonstrations across the country, leading to numerous arrests, in the immediate aftermath of the vicious terror attacks in Manchester disgraced the organisers as well as the authorities that allowed them to go ahead. 
Why do so many who purport to support the Palestinian cause not back the Trump peace deal, which is widely supported by the Arab and Muslim countries in the region? Why do they not urge Hamas to surrender, release the hostages and stop the bloodshed?

“Today’s attack was made inevitable by the radicalisation and Islamist extremism that have been allowed to spread by successive governments, which have ignored every warning and done practically nothing to tackle it. Now, the blood of British Jews cries out from the ground.

“Those who were murdered today were simply going to synagogue to pray on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. It has been a long time since British Jews had faith in our politicians, police and institutions. Their appeasement of extremists — especially those of the far-left and radical Islamists — is what has made today’s attack inevitable. The eyes of the Jewish people worldwide and decent Britons across the country now turn to Downing Street, not for thoughts and prayers or empty declarations that antisemitism has no place in Britain, but to hear what concrete, forceful measures will now be enacted.

“Today, the blood of British Jews is on the hands of virtue-signalling politicians who have poured fuel on the fire of extremism with their posturing and appeasement, police forces and police chiefs who have failed to tackle the mobs on our streets, universities and schools that have tolerated incitement, the BBC whose bias and moral collapse has essentially turned them into spokespeople for Hamas, whom they still refuse to call terrorists, and regulators like the Charity Commission that has failed abjectly to address dangerous rhetoric at mosques. We need firm and urgent action on each of these fronts, otherwise it is inevitable that yet more innocents will be murdered on our streets.”
