A citizens' assembly would be a step forward, empowering a representative sample of citizens acting with policymakers to develop just & transformative policy for the future - policy that prioritises people and our planet over private profit. 6/6

We are People Demand Democracy.
We demand a fair proportional voting system and a permanent legally-binding national House of Citizens, selected by democratic lottery to tackle the major crises facing the UK: inequality, corrupt politics, climate and so on.
#LabourConference23
@UKLabour should strive to listen to its membership and work with its affiliated unions.
It is encouraging to see labour working to repeal recent @Conservatives anti-trade union laws 5/6

They stole our pensions but they’ve now been restored. Huge day for everyone in the UK university sector. All those bitter cold days on the picket line, the lost pay, the doubts. Yet ultimately we won back our pensions. There’s power in a union 🫡
Today in the Hague, in the Netherlands:
Over 25'000 demonstrating against fossil fuel subsidies, 10'000 blocking the A12 motorway.
They withstood water cannons with equanimity. 2'400 were eventually arrested. They'll be back tomorrow.
Let's go XR Nederland!!
Dear @sciencemuseum
Please follow the lead of @Tate@NPGLondon and @TheRSC in dropping fossil fuel sponsorship. The sponsors are trying to clean their image by dirtying yours, and it’s not a good look. 1/4

We've been asked to comment by press on Kier Starmer's piece in the Times this morning. Here is our comment, shared publicly:
We can only hope that if Keir Starmer becomes our next Prime Minister that he will have a better grasp of the detail he has at present. Just Stop Oil is not calling for an immediate end to all UK oil and gas, but for a halt to granting new licences and consents. This is the same policy that Labour has signed up to. However, Labour's failure to commit to revoking Rishi Sunak's planned 100 new oil and gas licences should they come to power, means that their pledge to end new oil and gas is meaningless. They are indistinguishable from the criminal Conservatives.
It is obvious that our politicians and corporations have no intention of acting in accordance with the fundamental interests of either our young people or the country as a whole. This means that civil resistance is no longer an option, it is a necessity. In late October, thousands of people will join Just Stop Oil in London to march on the roads, and we will not stop until we win.

Thanks to everyone who has provided input and help for this work, especially my supervisors and co-authors 😁
And when it comes to "surplus" capacity, in future we predict a *decrease* in the amount of surplus. This trend is consistent across ensemble members (but more significant in some than others)
