In 1929, Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and the New York Yankees played an expedition game against the Waco Cubs, Waco's local Texas League Team. That night, Babe Ruth hit a ball so hard that it landed on top of the old Percy Medicine building at 501 S 8th St, at the corner of 8th and Webster ... a building that still stands. The Waco newspaper reported that, despite the fact that Katy Park only held 4,000 patrons, 11,000 were in attendance that night, some of whom had traveled more than 100 miles.

Katy Park was in the Silo District from its construction in 1905 until the terrible Waco tornado took out most of it in 1953. Unbelievably, perhaps, I can't find a photo of the Babe, Lou, or the Yankees in Waco on that date. I'm sure quite a few photographers must have been there but I'll be danged if I can find a photo of the game.
