Last physics talk by Nima Arkani-Hamed, and the message is clear: We have open questions in particle physics, and a muon collider is a tool unlike any other that can help us answer these questions
The case of the (still) mysterious Universe
Join us for the fifth #CERN70 public event on 6 June, 19.00 CEST, and learn more about some of the greatest mysteries of the Universe through the eyes of renowned physicists.
Moderated by @jay_jacome from @UvA_Amsterdam the two-panel discussions will explore questions such as:
❓Why is there more matter than antimatter?
❓What future experiments will reveal nature's deepest secrets?
❓What are black holes made of?
❓Could there be more than one Universe?
The virtuous circle of knowledge and innovation
Join us on 18 April, 19:30 CEST, at CERN Science Gateway for a captivating evening, celebrating CERN’s 70th anniversary and discovering the dynamic relationship between particle physics research and technological innovation.
Whether you are a student, educator, professional or simply curious, you will leave with a deeper appreciation for how fundamental research fuels innovation, and vice-versa.

From particle physics to society
Join us for the third #CERN70 public event on 18 April, 19.30 CEST, to explore how scientific research fuels technological advancements, and how these technologies, in turn, open new avenues for further research development.
The event, moderated by Paola Catapano, will cover three areas to explore the dynamic relationship between particle physics research and innovation.
🔵Advanced Particle Accelerators
🔵Particle Detectors
🔵Quantum Innovations
Meet the speakers: Tabea Arndt from @KITKarlsruhe; Amalia Ballarino from #CERN; Reinhold Bertlmann from @univienna; Daniela Bortoletto from @UniofOxford; Nicolas Gisin from @UNIGEnews; Jan Jakubek from @AdvacamC; Steffen Kappler from @SiemensHealth; Alessandra Lombardi from CERN; and @NobelPrize laureate in #Physics Alain Aspect.

Closed on 24, 25, 31 December 2023, and 1, 6–8 January 2024.
Au CERN, des générations de scientifiques cherchent à comprendre les particules et l’Univers. Ils ont mené des révolutions dans tant et tant de domaines comme la santé, l’aérospatial, ou encore l’industrie.
Membre fondateur, la France est fière d’y apporter son excellence.
CERN welcomes the President of the French Republic @EmmanuelMacron and the President of the Swiss Confederation @alain_berset for an official visit from our host states to the Laboratory. They were welcomed by CERN’s Director-General Fabiola Gianotti. Here are some of yesterday’s highlights.
“If I came here today, it is to reiterate my confidence in the scientific community and our ambition to maintain our leadership in this domain [particle physics],” says French President Emmanuel Macron (translated).
Original: « Si j’ai voulu venir là aujourd’hui, c’est pour témoigner ma confiance aux équipes et notre volonté, notre ambition, de conserver la première place dans ce domaine [physique de particules]. »
Here we see a heavy-ion collision event animation from the @ATLASexperiment detector.
The first heavy-ion run of the #LHCRun3 successfully finished last Monday, 30 October. Before the run, the experiments that detect and analyse the collision events at the #LHC underwent several significant upgrades.
🦾The @ALICEexperiment used an entirely new mode of data processing, resulting in up to 100 times more collisions being recorded per second.
⚙️The @LHCbExperiment used an upgraded their particle tracking system. It’s unique SMOG2 apparatus was used in an unique programme for fixed-target collisions of lead nuclei with other types of nuclei.
🦿The @CMSExperiment and the @ATLASexperiment upgraded their data acquisition, reconstruction, and selection infrastructure to take advantage of the increased collision rates.
Today, CERN introduced its new science centre to representatives from Member and Associate Member States, the President of the Swiss Confederation, partners in research and outreach, and donors to the Science Gateway Project.
