It feels strange to think this now, but just five years ago the age profile of vaping was very different: namely, middle aged men trying to quit smoking.
Now, vaping is considerably more popular among the young. And new demographics are getting hooked…
@GeorgeMonbiot £138 per household at a rough estimate. Take away houses already equipped with and those that can green measures and it’s much more. Then provide grants directly for heat pumps, solar and insulation. If a bath is overflowing turn off the taps.
@opinion@lararhiannonw Let's demystify Direct Air Capture (DAC)! Did you know McDonald's emits over 53 million metric tons of carbon annually, more than Norway? Removing just 1% of these emissions would require around 250,000 DAC plants. It's time to get real about the feasibility of options.
The Tories are lost because every part of their ideology has failed.
Commentary on the leadership race has focused on the candidates, but their fundamental problem is that their entire worldview has collapsed
By me, for Bloomberg - £ but screengrabs: 🧵

Audible gasps in room at result - James Cleverly was 18 points ahead y'day.
I've spoken to Tory MPs today who were voting for their preferred *second* candidate in final two - all were working on basis Cleverly was safe.
"The most sophisticated electorate in the world" 🤨
Part of me wants every water bill payer to get £3. Then they can weigh that against profits going abroad and to shareholders, not being able swim in the sea and rivers, reservoirs not being built and a crumbling infrastructure #OFWAT
@janrosenow It seems a real burden for those like yourself putting information down to cope with the increased traffic from those who don’t want you to. For those of us who have a genuine interest it will be a loss.
As govt proposes pouring billions into so-called carbon capture, please remember there is not a single example on earth where this actually works at required power-station scale. It is chiefly promoted by - guess who? Fossil fuel lobbyists.
This is absolute madness. Carbon capture and storage has failed time and again. Labour has slashed reliable green programmes, to pour vast sums of our money into a complete crock. The only possible explanation is lobbying by fossil fuel companies.🧵 https://t.co/GCyad2C3N4
Switzerland has updated its sewage treatment to filter out pharmaceuticals, EU is in the process of introducing laws requiring filtration of micropollutants by 2045 (funded by pharmaceutical companies on "polluter pays" principle.) The UK, meanwhile is doing...well...nothing...
And so…. the editor of the Mail on Sunday sits back and watches his front page mould the morning’s political shows… influence the BBC agenda… an institution he wants dead or damaged…. the irony…. This is the power of the press….
The reason this is important is because what Sky did was the equivalent of those climate change graphs that zoom in to make it look like things aren’t changing that much.
Or one of those graphs the Tories use to pretend economic growth was bigger than the EU.
