After four years heads-down building and running Tier 0 infrastructure — and then rebuilding much of it as that platform became an AI provider — I finally did some writing again.
It's not a technical piece. It's about a week in Sardinia with my wife for our 26th anniversary, and the small, ordinary ways AI quietly changed how we traveled: rerouting a day when the plan fell apart, booking an anniversary dinner over WhatsApp in Italian I don't speak, and — during one spa afternoon — building a working network-diagnostics tool and pushing it to GitHub before she was out of her treatment.
I came up in the Dot Com years. I remember when MapQuest and online reviews first made travel feel possible in a new way. This felt like the next jump — and I wanted to write about it from the ordinary side, not the hype side.
