@HonesttMatty @ChLlewes @Vision_iii @BBCSport You think it doesn't make sense bc you don't believe in non-binary genders. So not only are you choosing to refer to someone in a way they don't like, you're causing the grammar headache. If you accept they as singular, the problem goes away and you get to be a better person :)

@HonesttMatty @ChLlewes @Vision_iii @BBCSport It's they are. The English language isn't perfect in that it uses "they" as a singular and a plural, hence the confusion, but you're clearly happy with "they are" for the singular ("they are required to pay"); knowing the gender of the person doesn't change that.
