The International Olympic Committee is rotten from the inside.

At the 144th IOC Session held in Greece from March 19 to 21, Shamil Tarpischev was re-elected as an IOC member until 2028.

Shamil Tarpischev, a russian tennis player, coach, sports official, and President of the russian Tennis Federation. In the 1990s, he was a close ally of russian President Boris Yeltsin and led several state sports organizations. His 30-year tenure as head of the russian Tennis Federation would be unimaginable without state backing, as major sports federations in russia are tightly controlled by the government.

Tarpishchev has a reputation as a person close to the Kremlin "elites", frequently appearing alongside putin at public events, particularly sports-related ones. In July 2022, after russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Tarpischev was awarded the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II degree by putin’s decree.

In autumn 2022, Tarpischev enthusiastically supported the idea of forming military units composed of russian professional athletes to commit atrocities in Ukraine. He stated, “Creating volunteer units from professional athletes is a good idea. I can’t say more at this point. We need to meet and discuss this proposal with its developers.”

Despite this, just two weeks ago, Tarpischev was re-elected to the IOC. Footage shows the future IOC President warmly greeting him with a kiss and posing for a photo with a smile alongside an individual who openly supports russia’s war against Ukraine.
Is this the IOC’s version of “solidarity” with Ukraine?

No one in their right mind would have ever taken a decision to disqualify the top Olympics medal contender Vladyslav Heraskevych for a helmet design that honored fallen Ukrainian athletes.
If it walks and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. The decision was made in the Kremlin.
But the Russians miscalculated the blowback from the Streisand Effect.
Had they just ignored Heraskevych, hardly anyone would have even noticed the helmet or known who those people were.

And all subsequent statements by the IOC, claiming they can't allow a manifestation about the conflict, are a cynical lie. The helmet featured photos as a tribute of memory. Dedicating achievements to the memory of fallen friends is an inalienable right of every athlete

10. This selective justice turns a "neutral" rule into a tool of moral hypocrisy. When the Olympics allow moments of silence for some victims while banning them for others the "neutrality" becomes a tool for censorship.

11. Banning Heraskevych’s helmet is not about protecting sports; it’s about protecting the 'comfort' of spectators and sponsors from the uncomfortable reality of war. Perhaps this is exactly what terrified the Committee beyond measure.

9. Such destructiveness is worsened by the fact that representatives of the aggressor state compete freely under a "neutral" flag, while others openly display the russian flag on helmet (which in fact directly prohibited) and face no consequences.

The Hysteria of the Pharisaic Committee

What, then, has struck such terror into the heart of the Olympic Committee? Memory? Dignity? Principle? So, what does this Committee truly fear? Let’s take a look...

8. Why understanding the destructive nature of this decision is vital? If a helmet featuring photos of murdered friends is considered "political", then, according to IOC's logic, the very presence of an athlete from a country being targeted for destruction is also politics.

7. Why not agree to get rid from Helmet? These 24 fallen atheletes are part of his community. The truth is that the demand to remove this helmet is a demand to abandon his own identity and context. From a human rights perspective, this is nothing less than forced indifference.

6. So what happened next? The disqualification of the Ukrainian athlete for his rejection to get rid from the "Helmet". While his country is being crucified daily, he was stripped of his fundamental right to honor his fallen friends and colleagues and was punished for that.

5. Based on existing precedents, honoring the deceased is not propaganda; it is a profound act of mourning and remembrance. Dedicated the athletic journey to those held in the heart (friends, colleagues, or loved ones, living or deceased) is an inalienable right of every athlete.

4. Rule 50. IOC banned the Helmet, citing Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter, which prohibits political, religious, or racial propaganda on the field of play. However, none of these positions could be classified as relevant and applied in this case.

3. These were athletes whose paths remained untraversed, whose dreams were shattered. The Helmet was the only way for their memory to finally touch the world sports arena to reach the summit they were denied in life. And this silent tribute terrified the Committee to its core.

2. What did the Helmet show? Photos! There were no accusations. There was no mention of the nation that stole their lives, nor the bloody circumstances of their departure. It bore only the quiet, dignified faces of those whose athletic journey was taken away.
