This might be the most switched-on crop of Labour MPs we’ve ever had.
15 of them are presenting private members’ bills today. It’s the biggest clue yet which issues they care most about.
The list of bills:
The UK’s Prime Minister is proposing giving free weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic to unemployed obese people in order to encourage them to work:
“[The drug is] very important for our NHS, because, yes we need more money for the NHS, but we've also got to think differently.”
Job coaches sent to mental health wards is clearly obscene but it’s the natural end point of an agenda that equates health with productivity. If you believe humans are only valuable when they earn a wage, the NHS is a tool - not to help patients - but to get them back to work.
i keep thinking of something David Graeber wrote
> The ultimate hidden truth of the world is that it is something that we make, and could just as easily make differently
it's not precisely correct to say this gives me solace. but it gives me the faintest outline of hope i guess

I wanted to comment on how little this government understands AI but WHAT ON EARTH IS THIS PICTURE. I had to check this was a real tweet, because my god he looks like he's starting a podcast a doxxing immigrants.
We can build a future where AI drives growth, creates wealth and attracts investment in the UK, strengthening our position on the world stage.
