After 12+ years I've finally decided to leave @Google. Not an easy decision and I'll miss everyone, but I think it was time. Looking forward to the next challenge at @WhatsApp.
@orimdominic_@salimkarbm Even with pagination you need to paginate over sorted and counted dataset. If you have 1b rows and you want page 1 sorted, you need to sort those 1b rows first just to show the first 10 items. The same issue shows up with page sizes (see Ch 21 S21.3.1)
@orimdominic_@damndeji Definitely doable with smallish data sets. Just discouraged because things can grow out of control. If it's something for and important to the API, go for it. Too often we add sorting and record counts "just because". I think they should be there for a good reason 🤷♂️
@julietcuthbert I think there's a bit more to it than this... People in JA seem stuck choosing between getting to work to make money and following the laws to keep their kids safe. That sucks.
Singapore provides alternatives: buses/trains are safe, clean, and cheap (and kids <7 ride free).
@mamachell Singapore uses a demerit point system. 24 points in 24 months. Using your phone while driving is 12 points. They go away if you get no points for a year, first suspension is 12 weeks. Driving without a valid license is 10k SGD fine and up to 3 yrs jail.
@alexpal54367955@Goffeman Oh no! If they get too many traffic tickets, specifically for things like driving recklessly, they should lose their license. And driving without a license is usually jail time (see screenshot for the rules here...) That aside, it should be super easy to pay fines.
