When I left twitter months ago, I kept this account so that I could celebrate @dan_hoyt on Father's Day. Happy Father's Day, Dan! Can all your twitter kids still ride the lawn mower?
White folks have tried to use public dollars to escape the NC public school system since Brown V Board in 1954.
Don’t get it twisted: this strategy is not new.
We need to see, understand,
and call it out for what it is. Unconscionable.
What would happen if we saw school related distress as feedback on the system? As a psychologist, I meet many children who are distressed by school. Usually I’m being asked to change that. Can I make them less anxious? Can I make them attend without protest? 1/
@chimpsea 1. Wow
2. MS Ss are children
3. Implementing carceral systems to regulate children's interactions is cruel/harms kids/will fail
4. These adults need to have a consult with a skilled psych & admin about what they are really doing here
5. They need to drop this system (this is #1)
@nhannahjones Agreed. How about a priority admission policy for students whose family/ancestors/own selves ever had their basic rights (to be counted as a full person, access education, vote, own a home, love/marry, make decisions about their own body, etc) systemically oppressed.
I posted a blog w/info about Child Find & what parents can do to share private psych evals/info about diagnoses w/schools. There are steps to make sure schools hold a Referral Meeting (to consider need for special ed) & start the 90-day timeline. https://t.co/98ufZxIRfq
@chimpsea Logical next step after years of failing to fund sound basic ed, showing open hostility toward educators, and diverting school funds to profit-seeking school providers. Tell me you are hostile toward public ed without saying you are hostile toward public ed. #nced#ncpol
@baucomes @cdculp2 What an awesome (can I say OWLsome) leadership team! So happy for @cfhuffman13 and @cdculp2, but especially happy for the @baucomes learning community!
Agreed x 40! Plus, #41: When she tells you she loves you, she absolutely means it. @JaimeWarkonyi I hope your birthday was filled with magic and sparkle!
When she retired, I thought about how quiet the hallways of our school would be without her laughter. She mentored many leaders, before and after retirement. I'm grateful to have known and worked with her.
Always a cheerleader, always supportive. We will miss you Freda Cole! Thank you for imparting wisdom, showing genuine care for others, and leaving behind an incredible legacy of leadership and love.
@jmpsych "Chance is lumpy." (Abelson, https://t.co/E4ZN1V8dwR). You could actually be randomly selected for every moment in the quarter. The old data collection method (recording activity codes every 15 mins for a week) was waaaay worse. (I miss you all!)
