#MountStHelens May 18, 1980, 8:32 AM. A colossal landslide. Magma & hot fluids explode, surge outward like a hot hurricane. Column rises, ash falls for miles. Snowpack melts, mudflows converge, lahars move downvalley. A 9-hr eruption. Everything is changed.

@getpseudoed Last week protesters occupied & vandalized the Portland State University library. Originally they said the collections would be unharmed. They lied. The library will not reopen until fall while all the vandalism is cleaned up. This is not ok.
@pholser @KevinAprileCT This is my first choice for this category. A year or two after this album came out someone joked that they were going to rerelease the album as Boston’s Greatest Hits.

This large polished opal's inside, which has a botryoidal jasper formation constituting a unique inclusion, closely recalls nebulae in space

Exciting news that the team on the current Joides Resolution cruise may have drilled through the Earth’s crust and reached the mantle. If confirmed, this is a huge first for geology. #ProjectMohole
More than 60 years after Project Mohole, @TheJR successfully drills and collects more than 1 km of mantle rock!
