The Pirates front office and ownership held up their end of the bargain. Now it’s time for the players to execute.
Adding Luke Weaver, Kirby Yates, Lake Bachar, Camilo Doval, as well as reconfiguring how the other relievers are utilized has entirely transformed the bullpen.
My official report card for Ben Cherington today: A-
He didn’t check ALL the boxes, but he checked the biggest one.
My thoughts on a very active MLB trade deadline with @RobPratte on @KDKARadio HERE:
BREAKING NEWS: The Pirates are acquiring Luke Weaver from the Mets, per @jorgecastillo.
@espn
Ben Cherington gets one of the best relievers in the National League. Weaver still has one more year of control after 2026.
It used to be so easy and smooth.
Just a straight frozen rope whizzing out of his hand and disappearing into the catchers glove.
Side by side of his first MLB game in 2024 and last game:
No worries!
I figured being willing to help was a positive thing. Didn't realize you'd been promoted to making those decisions.
Just know, I’m always happy to fit in where I’m needed.
Weird energy toward someone who's just trying to work hard.
Keep doing your thing, man! 👊
Hi, Charles! First of all, this has nothing to do with you. You have my number, so you can text me if you find something wrong with what I post.
Secondly, this has nothing to do with ego. It has to do with me trying to exponentially grow in my career and help the station to the best of my ability.
I don’t believe I’m better than anyone else by saying that.
That said, you also always have to be your own biggest advocate. It would be self depreciating if I wasn’t. That’s how this business works… and I know what I’m capable of even if you would like to insinuate that I’m not.
If me working hard to get reps on-air bothers you, that's more about you than me. This doesn’t have to be personal, but it can be.
@Matthew_Sean96 I’d rather not trade the best pitching prospect in baseball, a starter who has found his groove after coming back from injury, and a huge power threat that he been one of the pirate’s most clutch hitters since he’s been in the majors.
@ArblasterLogan Fully agree. With the uncertainty of next year and the offense that has displayed itself this year (which is something they need to take full advantage of considering there is no guarantee they will reach this level again in future years) the Pirates MUST be big game buyers
1. Nobody knows if the MLB is going to have a work stoppage/condensed season next year or not
2. Paul Skenes is under club control until 2029 and Jones until 2029. Yes, Ashcraft is under control until 2031. So is Valdez.
3. O’Hearn only has one more year. This is Lowe’s only year.
The Pirates have arguably the best offense in the NL THIS SEASON, one of the best starting pitching trios in baseball, and have a legitimate chance to play deep into October if they straighten out the bullpen.
So, are people really this fixated on keeping Seth Hernandez for the future, so he can overlap with only some of this talent for about a year?
Obviously, the Pirates can and will try to extend some of the names listed above, but it’s not a guarantee.
The guarantee is that they have a chance to WIN NOW. The window is here. In the present…
And they should approach the deadline that way.
MAGIC MAN JERSEY GIVEAWAY: I am in a generous mood. If Esmerlyn Valdez goes deep today. I’ll give out 3 beautiful Pirates Valdez jerseys. If he hits a homer AND the Pirates win. I’ll give away 5 jerseys. All you have to do is 1) Follow me. And 2) Repost this. LETS GO BUCS!!!
Posted this back in September. Not that it’s rocket science or anything.
Some people were soley concerned about the hitting, when the trajectory of the bullpen was also very concerning going into 2026.
Obviously, Chapman left an offseason before Ozuna signed, but that could’ve been his money. This team would be AT LEAST 5 wins better with Chapman, Bednar, Carmen, and Soto all in the ‘pen.
And, by the way, Chapman wanted to come back after 2024.
Thank you very much, sir! Really appreciate that compliment.
I just started actively using my account about last week at this time. I plan to keep pushing out posts consistently.
Very kind of you to say. 🫡
