Train Cancellation update:
Indian Railways has cancelled 245 trains terminating and originating from Delhi stations ahead of the CJP protest in the national capital. This includes 75 Mail/Express including Rajdhani, Tejas, Shatabdi, and 170 passenger trains. @RailMinIndia
Yesterday, @IndianExpress reported an unprecedented rupture inside the Election Commission: TWO of its three members objecting on record, 14 times in 10 months, to decisions taken without their knowledge.
Today, the second part of our investigation looks at the concern Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi flagged most often: Who really controls our electoral rolls?
We followed that question to Goa, where we found something deeply concerning.

Bengal.
The Supreme Court handed the state's SIR to judicial officers. They heard 60 lakh voters flagged for "logical discrepancies" and retained 33 lakh on the roll. Then lakh appeals were filed to get those voters (retained on the voters' list) deleted.
When the court asked the Commission to explain, Sandhu asked his OWN officers:
Has EC filed appeals against inclusion of voters?
Who authorised these?
Who filed them?
He didn't know. Joshi didn't know. Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer didn't know.

The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵

School children from Vidisha district putting their lives at risk everyday as they jump across the concrete pillars of a stop dam on the Betwa River to reach school.
They said it's been like that for the last 7-8 years, and despite multiple complaints no action has been taken.
The same Vidisha district is home to former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and is barely 60km from Bhopal.
CJP says it has received reports of students and protesters being detained in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar despite the Centre's assurance that no punitive action would be taken after the nationwide protest was called off.
The party has demanded immediate release of all detainees, withdrawal of FIRs, and a written guarantee by July 28, warning of further necessary steps if the assurance is not honoured

For the past few days, I've been in touch with a middle-class family from #Saharanpur. Their 22-year-old son is battling an extremely rare form of cancer. The estimated cost of treatment is around ₹1 crore an impossible amount for a family that runs a small shop.
Dev Kotak, a reporter with Times now, was attacked by a mob of protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. This is absolutely disgraceful. You can request a reporter to leave the spot if you don't want him/her around but resorting to violence is absolutely unjustified.
