Tw: convicted rapist and sex offender David Daniels
He’s Bragging about getting singing contracts so quickly after becoming a registered sex offender 3 weeks ago!!! 143 opera folks are congratulating him! Some of them are unexpected and on opera Twitter 🙃
I’m fuming.
Some of the best musical drama I've seen in a long time in Saariaho's Innocence tonight — absolutely amazing. Running to listen to more of Vilma Jää's voice now
truly I think I'm just built differently (worse) to all of the people who are active on social media and also read books, do interesting things, etc. never read more than in the last year while I've barely tweeted
Accidentally double booked myself, so if anyone wants two stalls circle standing tickets (£13 each) for Saariaho's Innocence at ROH on April 20th, I'm selling them on!
@team_recorder @Hazrati_Emily98 @GuildhallNewMus hi! late to the party here, but this is on a 440 joint for my voice flute, which I got mostly to be able to play with piano more. it's a really fun piece to play though, and I think it might work on a tenor with some transpositional fiddling, if Emily was ok with that!
I'm doing a lot of reading on gender in opera atm, and it's so frustrating and alarmingly common to see performers of trouser roles referred to as "female-bodied" or "female-voiced". there's hardly any analysis of what that even *means*, and it makes me... kind of sad
anyway if anyone knows of anything that looks at gendered bodies and voices specifically in the context of music (and opera in particular), please tell me!! i would really love to read them
And of course if that's not something someone is deliberately interrogating, they want to pursue other topics and not get distracted. But even when writers deliberately acknowledge that gender is not fixed or binary, I find they still often fall into using these kinds of terms 😔
