🌿 Karam: one festival, many traditions

Karam is one of Jharkhand’s important festivals. But there is no single, uniform “Karam tradition.”

Across communities, its rituals, stories, songs, and meanings can take different forms.

🌿 Karam is more than a festival.

It can be understood as a living social institution — one through which communities renew relationships, transmit cultural memory and connect people with agriculture, nature and one another.

For communities such as the Oraons, Mundas, Santals and Ho, Karam is closely connected with community life, agriculture, cultural memory and relationships with the natural world.

The festival is not simply about a religious ritual.

What we truly need is a robust education and recruitment system that guarantees paper leaks, malpractices, and favoritism will never happen again, even if that requires a constitutional amendment. We will continue our movement until such systemic educational reforms are fully realised," he added.

The decision follows over 24 days of student protests in Ranchi against alleged irregularities like OMR tampering, premature answer key leaks, and manipulation in JPSC/JSSC exams, amid CID arrests of officials and TDPL staff.
