Walk-Off Rivalry Win: Girard Edges Colgan in 8 Innings Behind 16 Ks from Arkansas Commit Kam Smith
Girard earned a dramatic 2-1 extra-inning victory over rival St. Mary’s Colgan on Monday, using a walk-off walk in the bottom of the 8th to seal the win.
With the game tied 1-1, Blake Brokob drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the winning run for the Trojans.
Kam Smith, last years 3A SIK Pitcher of the Year is as advertised, was electric on the mound for Girard, tossing all 8 innings while allowing just 3 hits, 1 unearned run, no walks, and striking out 16 Panthers hitters. He threw 77 strikes in 91 pitches 🤯.
Girard got its first run in the 4th inning when Aiden Ashbacher delivered an RBI single.
Colgan answered in the 5th as Anthony Schremmer singled to left to tie the game.
Gabe Brown was outstanding for Colgan as well, working 7.2 innings with 11 strikeouts in a tough-luck outing.
Robbie Bruning led Girard offensively with two hits, while Ashbacher and Brokob each had an RBI.
A classic Crawford County battle lived up to the billing. #sportsinkansas photo: Kaylee Davied Photography

Shortens up with two strikes and still has the power to drive a ground rule double to the pull side gap.
‘26 SS/RHP Ben Graves (@LFSHSBaseball & @ORUBaseball commit)
Better known for his work at SS and as a LHH, but jumps in the mound and tosses 5 scoreless allowing just 2 hits in relive and striking out 5.

He’s not just producing… he’s taking over.
Mill Valley’s Beau Peterson, the 2025 Sports in Kansas 6A Player of the Year ⚾️and Texas commit, is putting together one of the top seasons in the state this spring.
He leads Kansas in total hits with 29 (tied with Bryor Schultz of Girard), while adding 14 doubles and 20 RBI in just 50 at-bats 🤯
And he’s doing it on the mound as well, striking out 25 batters in 19.1 innings.
One of the most complete and impactful players in Kansas, regardless of class. #sportsinkansas

Multi hit game including this opposite field RBI double yesterday. Pure hit traits w/ the ability to use the whole field. #PGHS

One of the region’s top arms made quick work of hitters over 5.1 IP, punching out 7 with complete command of a 3 pitch mix.
Polished, 6-foot-3, 200-pound easy mover with plenty more to come.
