My first year at SJSU, my car was totaled outside the Athletics offices. Lawrence ran out, directed traffic and talked to the police, made sure I got home okay. He took a chance on a girl from Buffalo with zero D1 experience. That is who Lawrence is: someone who saw you for you.

Lawrence changed so many lives, mine included. His kindness and authenticity are tenets to live by. I will never forget everything he gave and taught me.

We are saddened to share that longtime sports information director Lawrence Fan has passed away at the age of 67.

@CaseyyMcGaw Outside of work, the friends I’ve made have either been on Twitter or people I’ve asked out on a friend date - a hike or beer or trivia - and it’s gone from there. I’ve found that people rarely want to make the first move so I’m happy to be that person. 😂

Feeling fulfilled looks differently for everyone, & it doesn’t make you “weak” to leave the industry because you’re burned out, nor are you “stronger” because you work 16-hour days on end. I feel most fulfilled helping others. I found that in a job that gives me weekends.

My favorite part of working in college athletics was working with the student-athletes and mentoring students. I worried I’d never find that again. I found that working in marketing at a school. I’m still working with and mentoring students. They’re just a bit younger.

I’m 24.

Since transitioning out of Athletics I’ve:
- seen my mental health increase DRASTICALLY
- tripled my salary
- enjoyed my weekends
- had drive to work harder in my new job
- had more flexibility to go on vacation or take a mental health day
- found happiness
