Just replaced another heavy Docker setup with a lightweight local agent + mobile monitoring.
No more loud fans, no cloud relay, and I can restart a dead container from my phone in seconds. Feels like cheating. 🚀
What’s the smallest Docker-related change that gave you the biggest quality-of-life boost lately?
(Desktop alternative, compose tweak, monitoring tool, etc.)
#Docker #SelfHosting #DevTools
Hetzner’s price increase is a good reminder that “cheap cloud” was never guaranteed.
A lot of small apps, hobby projects, bots, dashboards, family tools, and side projects survive because infra is boring and affordable.
When hosting costs jump, users eventually feel it as:
fewer free tiers
higher subscriptions
abandoned projects
more ads
more aggressive upsells
The boring backend bill always reaches the front door eventually. 🥲🥲
I left Docker Desktop because my Mac sounded like it was trying to achieve escape velocity🚀.
OrbStack has been great: fast, quiet, invisible.
Now Apple building its own container tooling is too interesting to ignore.
it would be a sin to not give it a proper try:

I built Docker Monitor for quick Docker checks from iPhone/Android.
It uses a local agent container on your Docker host:
- no Docker TCP
- no cloud relay
- bearer-token auth
- SSH tunnel support
- logs, stats, health, restart actions

Feedback welcome.
2026 and we are still on. Same Lineup and more guest Deejays.
We blast all the music from the past with the Party Generals in the booth.
All at @GuvnorUganda tomorrow.
