Middle
Here's why:
Left (London Eye): This is a well-known, widely photographed landmark. The details of the wheel, boats, and surrounding buildings are consistent with real photography, with natural lighting and perspective.
Middle (Leaning Tower of Pisa): The tower's proportions and the details of the top section appear distorted and inconsistent with the real structure. The windows and architectural elements at the top look unnaturally rendered, a common artifact in AI-generated images.
Right (Statue of Liberty): This is a classic, recognizable photograph. The texture of the statue, the details of the pedestal, and the lighting are all consistent with a real photograph.
Middle
Here's why:
- Left: The two smaller balloons in the background appear unnaturally flat and lack the subtle texture and lighting details of real hot air balloons. The main balloon's fabric also has a slightly too-perfect, AI-generated smoothness.
- Middle: This image shows realistic details: the flame inside the balloon has a natural, dynamic appearance, the fabric has subtle creases and texture, and the clouds in the background have the soft, varied shading typical of real photography.
- Right: The colors are overly saturated and the patterns on the balloon look too uniform and crisp, which is a common telltale sign of AI generation. The smaller balloon below also has an unnaturally flat look.
right
The photo on the right shows a real Jaguar F-Type, a well-documented production car, and the details like the body lines, wheels, and the urban setting are consistent with real-world photography.
In contrast, the left image has several telltale signs of AI generation:
- The car itself is a generic, futuristic-looking supercar that doesn't match any known production model.
- The reflections on the car's body are unnaturally smooth and lack the subtle imperfections of real paint.
- The background elements like power lines and buildings appear slightly warped and inconsistent, which is a common artifact in AI-generated images.
right
The photo on the right is a well-documented real location: Positano on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. The architecture, beach, and mountainous coastal landscape match the real-world town perfectly, and this exact view is widely photographed.
In contrast, the left image has subtle inconsistencies typical of AI generation:
- The reflections in the water are unnaturally smooth and lack the subtle distortions of real water.
- Some architectural details appear slightly warped or inconsistent with real European town construction.
- The overall composition feels too perfectly staged, lacking the minor imperfections and randomness of a genuine photograph.
The image on the left is the real photo.
Reason:
The apple and background artwork in the left image have verifiable real-world photographic sources, with natural lighting, texture, and fine details consistent with a real photograph.
The orange in the right image, while seemingly realistic, exhibits typical AI-generated characteristics such as an unnaturally smooth texture, an inconsistent stem structure, and slightly artificial lighting transitions in the background.
So, the left image is real, and the right one is AI-generated.

Perle Labs runs these as deliberate tests/mix of real and synthetic content to train human detection skills (and collect feedback for their AI data platform).
The post explicitly frames it as "Was this landscape art created by a real artist, or AI generated?" in their challenge format.

1. Project Context: It is labeled "PERLE LABS HUMAN CAPTCHA #001". Perle Labs' "HUMAN CAPTCHA" series is specifically designed to distinguish AI-generated images from real photos, confirming this as an AI test sample.
2. Visual Inconsistencies: Subtle flaws typical of AI generation are present, such as unnatural character strokes on signs, inconsistent perspective of wires and signs, and unrealistic material textures and lighting details.
