I am FURIOUS about the corrupt politicians who only care about their own interests instead of serving the people! We need leaders who listen to our voices and fight for real change NOW. #politicsfail#fedup https://t.co/SJL3vDPZpL

@steve_hanke The most practical, least risky solution for individuals and corporations struggling with the collapse of their local currency is to adopt a #bitcoin standard. Every other approach requires trusted intermediaries and too much counterparty risk.

A Starbucks Odyssey
So my girlfriend recently got access to @Starbucks Odyssey. I want to hate it because it's a corporate NFT grab, but I have to say, I'm kind of pleasantly surprised. We both (me as a CT-native and her as a crypto skeptic), that these loyalty programs could be the way crypto breaks through into the mainstream.
Because what's fascinating is that Odyssey is not just a loyalty program. Yes, you buy things to earn rewards. But it's more complicated than that. It's a play-to-earn game. You earn stamps for completing Journeys - learning about Starbucks, ordering certain things, getting refills, etc.
But because it's open world, and there's demonstrable scarcity via NFTs, and a bit of exclusivity since #limitedbeta, it utilizes an NFT flywheel to supercharge growth.
You earn NFTs with unique benefits, and if you don't care about the benefits, you can resell them. And because the community is aligned to make these stamps valuable, they promote the program. Which in turn makes stamps resellable for more money.
Now, theres a fair criticism to be leveled here that those experiences should just go to the people who love Starbucks the most, no speculation attached. I’m sympathetic to that. But that isn’t actually Starbucks’ goal here. Starbucks is not in the business of showering super-fans with free-love. They are in the business of selling coffee and building their brand. They give away rewards to help achieve that end.
And this system achieves that end with powerful efficiency that maximizes everyone’s well-being. Starbucks-lovers can buy their experiences. Starbucks gets their brand out there. And customers who just want cash back, can earn that cash by playing.
This is the speculative engine that works for native NFT communities. And it also, seemingly, works for Starbucks. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think we're going to see many more brands following Starbucks' lead.
