To all British Somalilanders,
We must express our disappointment and voice our concerns to the UK Labour government regarding their recent speech at the United Nations regarding Israel's recognition of Somaliland.

This betrayal has severely strained the longstanding and enduring relationship between Somalilanders and the UK, whic has spanned over 150 years. Our ancestors fought valiantly for the British Empire during World War I, an our grandfathers fought again in World War II.

This interview revealed that the political turmoil within the Kulmiye Party stems from just two factors:
1.Chairman Mohamed Kahin’s base (his clan) did not deliver a landslide vote in the recent election.
2.Members of Mohamed Kahin’s clan currently lead all three major political parties in Somaliland.

Because of these points, some argue that Chairman Mohamed Kahin should step down from his role.

But this raises important questions:
1.Who is Mohamed Kahin?
2.Where is the respect for a man who has been a steadfast champion of the Kulmiye Party’s principles?
3.What is the true history between Chairman Kahin and former President Muse Bihi. whose own base is now among those calling for his removal?

My analysis:
Mohamed Kahin has a long record of courage and sacrifice, perhaps more than anyone else in Somaliland’s modern history. He has been the backbone of the Kulmiye Party, through its darkest struggles and brightest victories.

If he remains chairman through the next election, could he win the presidency? Given his record, his contributions, and his standing with the public, I believe the answer is yes. If the party, and those calling for his removal would allow him to be its presidential candidate, he could very well secure victory.

It is worth remembering that Mohamed Kahin and Muse Bihi have been close allies for over 40 years, with Kahin standing beside the president through every challenge.

In my view, Mohamed Kahin’s value is not defined by the size of the vote from his base. His leadership, sacrifices, and service to Somaliland warrant both respect and recognition and may yet carry him to the presidency if he is given the chance.
