What heroes:
Pilot Smith Matzachar was stabbed by the terrorist but, displaying supreme heroism, opened the cockpit and called for help.
Yaniv Hayun and Asaf Rajuan lunged at the terrorist and subdued him.
Tzvika Mans tied the terrorist up using a flight headset cable.
Immediately afterward, Yaniv took the controls and maintained the aircraft's stability.
And Dr. Shota Musaev treated the wounded pilot.
This man is a hero.
Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian captain of flydubai Flight 1073, fought back after being stabbed in the cockpit.
Despite being severely injured, he managed to unlock the cockpit door - allowing Israeli passengers and the Emirati crew to intervene and save all the passengers.
Together, their extraordinary courage saved 174 lives.
Indian. Israeli. Emirati.
Different nationalities. One extraordinary act of courage. 🇮🇳🇮🇱🇦🇪
We wish Captain Machchhar a full and speedy recovery.
#President #HassanSheikh, Somalia’s #offshore #resources do not belong to one person or any foreign government—they are the inheritance of the Somali people. Every oil agreement must be transparent, fair, and beneficial to the public. We can cooperate with #Turkey, but Somalia is not for sale, and its resources must never be used to remain in power. The Somali people have the right to know who benefits and where the oil revenue goes. Anyonebecome. President #Somalia protect our country and use its resources honestly for the Somali people.
Our #oceans and #natural #resources are a national inheritance belonging to every #Somali—not to one #president, one #political group, or any #foreign country.
We must seriously examine the agreements concerning Somalia’s #offshore #oil. Many citizens fear that these deals may benefit #Turkey and powerful #politicians more than the #Somali people. We also worry that foreign influence and #oil interests could be used to support the #current #leadership and interfere with Somalia’s political future.
We are not against #cooperation with Turkey or any other #country. However, every partnership must be #transparent, fair, and based on Somalia’s national #interests. The #Somali people deserve to know what was signed, how the income will be divided, and who will be held responsible for protecting our resources.
Somalia’s oil must help build schools, hospitals, roads, employment, and a #secure future for our children. It must never become a tool for corruption, @political control, or personal enrichment.
We demand transparency. We demand #accountability. Most importantly, we demand that @Somalia’s wealth benefit the Somali people.
Somalia belongs to its people, and its resources must serve its people.
Turkey has poured huge sums into making Somalia one of its main foreign outposts but is being sucked into the country's violent political battles, risking the goodwill it has built. https://t.co/hW4fUdR0XS

H.E. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During his remarks, the President reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to multilateralism, international law, regional peace and security, democratic governance, and a stronger partnership between Somalia and the international community.
He underscored Somalia’s unwavering commitment to protecting its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity and internationally recognised borders.
He also called for sustainable support for Somalia’s security transition, and global action on climate change and development financing.
Mr. President of Somalia,
Today, you stood before the United Nations and spoke about progress, peace, security, and human rights. But the Somalia you described is not the Somalia many ordinary people experience every day.
You said the country is safe, yet many families still live in fear. You spoke about protecting human rights, while citizens say their homes have been destroyed, their land taken, and their voices ignored. You spoke about unity, but the constitutional rights and autonomy of Somalia’s federal member states have repeatedly been challenged.
You claimed that humanitarian assistance was reaching those who needed it. Yet hungry mothers and children are still waiting for food, while serious allegations remain that aid intended for vulnerable people has been diverted or stolen.
The Somali people are not asking for beautiful speeches. They are asking for truth. They want their homes protected, their land respected, their children fed, and their rights defended. They want leaders who serve the people—not leaders who use the suffering of the people to impress the international community
I had a productive meeting with Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi yesterday.
Somaliland has already established itself as a reliable partner for the United States on a range of issues, from countering terrorism to protecting shipping around the Horn of Africa. We discussed further strengthening the U.S.-Somaliland partnership.
I have been pushing the United States to deepen our partnership. I am committed to securing American recognition of Somaliland’s sovereignty and, in the meantime, I’m urging the State Department to stop treating Somaliland as the same as Somalia. The U.S. should establish a region-specific Travel Advisory specifically for Somaliland, which would reflect the reality on the ground.
I look forward to continuing our work to advance our shared security interests.
Somaliland Names Diaspora Representative for Israel Visit
#Somaliland has appointed an official diaspora representative for its upcoming six-day visit to Israel, scheduled for October 17–22.
The program, organized by #Somaliland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Israel-Africa Business Connect, will focus on government engagement, business and investment, technology, knowledge exchange and cultural visits to Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa.
The visit points to a growing form of people-to-people engagement between #Somaliland and Israel, with humanitarian, civic and individual initiatives increasingly complementing official ties.
Somaliland president Irro arrived in the US for meetings with US officals & international leaders
and maybe even a low key UN appearance as part of another countries delegation...read more about it ;
Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro and the delegation accompanying him have arrived in #Washington, D.C., for an official working visit to the United States.
The delegation was received at Dulles International Airport by Somaliland government officials led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who had arrived earlier, as well as members of the Somaliland diaspora and other diplomats.
President Irro is expected to remain in the United States for nearly a month. During his visit, he is expected to hold meetings with senior U.S. officials and other international leaders and diplomats who will be in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly( which starts on september 8th).
UN general assembly
It is an ideal moment to meet many worldleaders in one place as it is custom for worldleaders to have many sidemeetings with other worldleaders during the UN general assembly whcih starts on september 8th.
While Somaliland as a non Un member would on its own not be allowed at UN headquartersin New York, it can get access if a UN member invites him and some teammembers as guest delegation members, members like the US, Israel or UAE could do that.
It would give the president and a small team access to the UN delegates lounge (perfect place for unplanned encounters and short talks between world leaders), or to closed side events and bilateral meeting rooms. Also the Somaliland delegation can meet with international figures outside the Un building.
Likely he would avoid the main general assembly hall or plenary area to avoid a diplomatic scene if Somalia delegates spot him. Though UN rules allow his presence as apart of another countries delegation and being present on UN grounds does give the benefit his team (wearing the friendly nation's badge) can scout the lounges first. Once they spot a target leader or a sympathetic foreign minister who is standing alone, they approach them, make the soft pitch, and say, "Our President is just around the corner and would love to say hello for two minutes." If the leader agrees, the President is brought in for a quick chat, in which the president can try to pitch Somaliland 's case and lobby for follow up talks.
First working trip to the USA
The visit is his first official working trip to the United States since taking office. The visit comes at an important stage in Somaliland’s diplomatic campaign, with Hargeisa seeking to deepen its relations with Washington in the areas of diplomacy, security, economic cooperation and investment, while also advancing its international recognition efforts.
It also comes after several high level diplomatic and military US delegations visiting Somaliland in 2025 and 2026.
It also build on the work of several Us lawmakers like Us senator Ted Cruz, representatives Scott Perry, Tom Tiffany, Andy Ogles and senator Jim Risch who have advocated for diplomatic recognition in congress.
Us interests would likely be in the areas of maritime securtiy, Us military base options (due to complication in Djibouti) and economic cooperation.
Somalilands interest would likely be in areas of economic cooperation, access to global financial platforms, security cooperation and most importantly diplomatic recognition.
Realistic expectations
While sometimes countries can move quite fast like Israel on recogniton, more likely is the path of the UAE who has gradually built cooperation with Somaliland in the areas of trade, development, security and other areas.
Given the fact a very recent Us State department report noted both strategic advanteges and opportunities somaliland has to offer it also emphasised, it also stated the US is still only recognising Somalia
So i expect for now maybe a first agreement or mou on maritime security cooperation, maybe an mou to explore feasability of a Us base in somaliland or maybe a direct agremeent for a Us base in somaliland. And perhaps on exploring critical resources mining and processing as a core us interest abroad is securing critical resources.
Dont see that as a failure,on the contrary any such agrement woudl alreayd be a major win. See them as stepping stones towards recognition which i expect not now but near the end of Trump's term. As interests and cooperation grow over time that will be a logical point to reach in some years.
🚨 SOMALILAND PRESIDENT ARRIVES IN D.C. AS RECOGNITION PUSH GAINS TRACTION
Somaliland’s president and his delegation have arrived in Washington for an official working visit as the territory continues its campaign for U.S. recognition as an independent state.
The visit comes amid growing support in many American circles for formally recognizing Somaliland.

MOSSADIL COMMENTARY: Washington’s engagement is worth watching closely. U.S. recognition of Somaliland would represent a major diplomatic shift in the Horn of Africa — with potential implications for Somalia, regional security, and American strategic interests near the Red Sea. Somaliland is a democratic nation that could serve as the standard set for war-torn, troubled nations in close proximity.
