In contrast, when visitors, who did not receive any such information were asked about their willingness to pay a generic 'tourism tax', they were willing to pay a lower amount for such a tax.

JIEP’s Dr Peter Edwards (@peterericthor) has explored "tourism tax"  route through his PhD research.  Edwards found from his survey data that tourists are more willing to pay for an 'environmental tax'  rather than a general 'tourism development tax'.

When respondents were given information on the benefits of nature, the current threats to the environment, the types of conservation mechanisms required and information on how their tax dollars will be spent, they had a higher probability of saying yes to an 'environmental tax'.
