If you’ve given up on Wirtz, good for you.

But giving up on a player because a down year is almost always a bad idea.

Cole Palmer had a down year. Ousmane Dembele had multiple.

Ultimately, a career is a journey. You will have bad moments but if you work through it, it builds character.

Everything I’ve seen from Wirtz during this difficult period (and not just for him but for the whole team) has been a relentless work ethic and no complaints, no shirking responsibility, no moaning. He just gets on with it.

And that convinces me that when the team finally clicks into gear, he will be one of the most delightful players to watch, a key contributor on the pitch, he will get all his plaudits and we as Liverpool fans will bask in the glow of watching one of the most magnificent players in the League rain his magnificence on the League.
