It was the middle of the night, at about 1.30am, when Norway lost to England.
Yet thousands of Norwegians went to the Palace in Oslo and celebrated with one final Viking row.
They did not riot. They did not burn cars. They did not smash bus stops or glass windows of shops.
They smiled. The laughed. They saw the positive in their performance. They celebrated their heritage. They were proud of who they have been in the past and who they are today.
Norway might be out of the World Cup 2026 but they are in our hearts.
In the last three weeks, I think we have all fallen a little bit in love with Norwegians.
If Argentina beat Switzerland, they’ll become the first team in World Cup history to reach the semi-finals without facing a single FIFA top-10 nation.
Their path so far:
- Algeria
- Austria
- Jordan
- Cape Verde
- Egypt
- Switzerland?
Not one top-10 opponent.
For defending champions, that’s an unbelievably comfortable path.
Is this the luckiest World Cup run ever?
I’ve never cheered harder for another country than I have the last 2 hours 🏴🏴🏴🏴 Let’s go boys! GIDDY UP! 🤠#worldcup#England#Norway
Watching the World Cup has me asking questions. Do Europeans get issued 8 weeks of vacation, unlimited airline miles, and a trust fund at birth? Because every match I turn on there are 40,000 fans following their team to a different state or country on a Tuesday afternoon while Americans are hiding in a work bathroom checking scores.
