Reform’s reluctance to engage with Tommy Robinson’s movement is reminiscent of the Alternative Vote referendum in 2011 when we blew a chance for a fairer voting system because the progressives running the Yes campaign refused to work with Nigel Farage, whose communication skills would have helped them win the vote.
Tommy Robinson has organised three massive peaceful demonstrations of patriotic unity attended by ordinary people who have had enough of seeing their country purposely destroyed, exactly the kind of people who elected Farage and Tice a few months ago. To dismiss them in such a condescending way is a genuine Ratner moment. They need to fix it, and quickly, or far from expanding their presence in Parliament, their current MPs will be lucky to survive the next election.
